Ohio State Journal of Politics and International Affairs Call for Papers

The Journal of Politics & International Affairs (JPIA) is seeking qualified undergraduate student submissions to be published in the Spring 2022 issue. JPIA is a student-run journal that publishes papers written by undergraduate students in the areas of Political Science, International Studies, Economics, Public Affairs, Social Science, and related fields. Ideal submissions are both informative and argumentative with well-developed theses and strong mechanics.

The Journal typically publishes original research, undergraduate theses, and essays written for upper-level courses, although all majors and class ranks are invited.

If this opportunity is of interest to you, we highly encourage you to submit a paper for publication on our website at http://u.osu.edu/jpia/submit-manuscript/. The deadline is January 31, 2022. We have recently updated our submission guidelines, which can be found here: http://u.osu.edu/jpia/submission-guidelines/. We ask that you carefully review them before submitting.

Call for Submissions -- NYU American Public Policy Review

Call for Submissions—N.Y.U. American Public Policy Review

The N.Y.U. American Public Policy Review seeks articles by undergraduate and graduate students that propose bold, novel American policy ideas that are not yet part of the political mainstream or that warrant additional scholarship. The Policy Review is a faculty-reviewed electronic journal managed by undergraduate students at New York University, currently accepting manuscript submissions with a deadline of September 31, 2021 for publication this fall. No specific length of article is required; however, all submissions should be detailed, thoroughly researched, and include appropriate references. Most submissions are between 4,000 and 8,000 words.

The journal's editors seek to amplify the brightest public policy proposals of current students through rigorous intellectual review, and they encourage students of any discipline, any level of study, and any accredited academic institution to submit an article for publication. Guidelines for authors and information on how to submit manuscripts are available at nyuappr.pubpub.org/submit. The journal is an open-access publication and does not charge a publication fee to authors.

Student-run Policython Event for Writing Policy Proposals

The Pandemic Policython, scheduled from October 23rd-25th for 48 hours, is an opportunity for students to write policy proposals addressing today’s most pressing challenges in areas such as public health, economic equity, criminal justice, and international affairs. This free online event is open to anyone, whether you have an inkling to explore public policy, or you want to further hone your existing policy writing skills. We welcome beginners!

We hope to ‘see’ you at this friendly, inspiring competition and present your policy solutions to a global audience!
Speakers and mentors from nonprofits like the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, academic institutions like the Harvard Kennedy School, and international NGOs including the World Health Organization will be participating and sharing their expertise. You can work in teams of 1-4 members and receive guidance every step of the way through workshops, mentor office hours, and judge feedback. The event culminates with submitting the policy memos to policymakers. Winning teams will receive up to $250 in cash and $1000 in a seed grant fund to continue their work with a partner. Tons of other prizes, from placement in the Harvard Art Museum to automatic entry into partner organization fellowships and chats with leading academics, are available.

Fiscal Fallout Contest - Win $5000!

November 15, 2019

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is now accepting submissions for our new
Fiscal Fallout Contest, where students are given the opportunity to put a human face on the
consequences of high and rising federal debt. The winner will receive $5,000.

The federal budget deficit will exceed $1 trillion this year, and the national debt as a share of the
economy will reach its highest point outside of World War II. In the coming years, debt will continue
to grow rapidly. As Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell recently testified to Congress, “the federal budget is on an unsustainable path.”

The consequences of high and rising debt include slower income growth, less ability to combat the next recession, rising debt service payments, entitlement programs on the brink of insolvency, increased
burdens on future generations, and a higher risk of an eventual fiscal crisis.
While these consequences are alarming, they are hard to personalize. It is difficult to visualize the
damage debt can cause for individuals, families, and businesses around the country. The
Fiscal Fallout Contest is an opportunity for those who would be most affected by the national debt, students, to demonstrate the human consequences of debt.

The Fiscal Fallout Contest asks students to create a compelling multimedia presentation
(video, podcast, short story, song, storyboard, etc,) portraying the human and societal impact of our unsustainable fiscal situation.
Entrees could focus on any potential long-term consequences of debt – whether a spike in interest
rates, stagnant wages, or some type of fiscal crisis – the choice is theirs!
The goal is to humanize the risks and costs associated with the debt, and to win $5,000 in the process.

Who: Open to current high school, college, and graduate students
What: A contest to raise awareness about the national debt
When: Submissions due March 1, 2020
Top Prize: $5,000 (what the U.S. spends every half-second on interest on the debt). Second and
third place prizes of $1,000 and $500.
Submissions now being accepted!

Call for Papers and Panel Proposals

 VCU POLITICAL SCIENCE
and the
College of Humanities and Sciences
Presents

The 13th Annual Student Research Conference
Friday, April 19, 2019
Virginia Commonwealth University

Undergraduate and junior graduate students are invited to submit proposals to present completed research papers/projects, research-in-progress, or round table discussions on any topic related to the general fields of government, international, and public affairs.  Students from colleges and universities in and around Virginia as well as national and overseas colleagues are invited to submit proposals.  We invite faculty and experts from VCU and other institutions to chair and serve as discussants; each presenter will have 10-15 minutes to speak. The VCU Political Science program offers concentrated study in American Government, Public Policy, International Relations, Comparative Government and Politics, Political Theory and Research Methods, with strong connections to Sociology, Economics, Philosophy, International Studies, Psychology, and History, allowing for a wide array of possible paper proposals. We’ll consider students from all majors and disciplines.

This is your chance to share your interests with faculty and other students, to gain experience presenting your work in a professional conference environment, and to receive useful and constructive feedback on your research. Proposals should contain your name and e-mail address, your university, and your major or department, the title of your proposed presentation, and a short (1-2 paragraph) abstract describing your work, including general topic and what you will argue.

The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, March 26, 2019.  Please e-mail your submissions to VCUConference2019@gmail.com . Those selected to participate will be notified on a rolling basis by e-mail and all will receive replies by no later than Friday, April 5, 2019.

The one-day conference will also include additional panels on internships and careers in government and foreign affairs, a panel with information on graduate schools, and a buffet lunch served for all presenters and panelists in the afternoon.

There is no fee for participation in the conference.  For any questions, please contact Professor
Chris Saladino at cjsaladino@vcu.edu or the conference email VCUConference2019@gmail.com
