The NVTC (nvtc.gov) provides critical linguistic support to the United States Intelligence Community and other federal agencies. We provide a variety of translation services and our language needs are diverse. Join us for a virtual information session that will focus on opportunities for students from the Arabic, Persian, Chinese & Russian programs. In the session, we'll discuss the various career options the NVTC is offering to UMD students and alumni.

Internship Opportunity: START

 The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Response to Terrorism (START), based here at the University of Maryland, is now accepting applications for its Summer 2022 Internship Program! We are also very excited to announce that our program now includes a stipend. Students will receive $3,000 for summer semesters, and $2,250 for fall and spring semesters.

The priority application deadline, for best consideration, is on Sunday, March 13 at 11:59pm ET, and the final application deadline is on Sunday, April 3 at 11:59pm ET. We were hoping you might be able to share the information below with any students and other contacts who you think may be interested in these opportunities! 

START is currently offering our program remotely and plans to continue doing so in the summer. Accepted interns may have the option to work in person pending further public health developments, but all will retain the ability to continue working remotely if desired. Interested students are encouraged to attend one of our upcoming virtual information sessions, the first to be held on Thursday, February 24 at 4pm ET and the second on Wednesday, March 16 at 3pm ET. These sessions will provide an opportunity to learn more about the program, explore resume and cover letter tips, and to ask questions. Call for Undergraduate Student Participants Submission Deadline: March 10, 2022

The African American Studies Department at the University of Maryland College Park calls for applications for undergraduate student participation in its interdisciplinary Mellon Foundation funded Seminar, “African/Black Diaspora Academic and Public Discourse.”

The seminar welcomes all undergraduate students with academic interests in African/ Black identity(ies) in the U.S. and the African Diaspora. Undergraduate students in their junior or senior year who major in the humanities and the humanistic social sciences specializing in African, Africana and/or African American Studies or those who are involved in Caribbean, African, or African Americans student organizations are encouraged to apply.

Students will participate in a student panel discussion about their research and/or their campus/community work and share personal reflections, ideas, and experiences. Undergraduate participants will be selected from the Washington, DC/Maryland area. The student panel will be held in April 2022. Three undergraduate students will be selected to participate in this seminar. Undergraduate student participants will receive $250 for participating in the student panel.

Attention creative writers! Are you a passionate fiction writer with a flair for storytelling? If so, submit your application today.

The Sebastian Herbstein Memorial Scholarship in Fiction Writing is a memorial scholarship that honors the memory of Sebastian Herbstein, a talented writer, dedicated scholar and son of UMD professor, Judith Freidenberg, which provides two prizes, $600 for first prize and $300 for second prize, for works of short fiction of 5,000 words or less. All full-time UMD undergraduate students are eligible to apply.
