The Consumer
Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is a federal agency that was created in
2011 by the Dodd-Frank Act.
We regulate consumer financial products: mortgages, student loans,
credit cards, credit reporting services, payday loans, auto loans, and
any other product that’s pitched to everyday Americans by banks and
other financial institutions.
From March 18 – 20, we are having a Spring Break at CFPB
for current undergraduate students. Students will spend three days at
our headquarters in Washington DC, meeting CFPB staff, attending
presentations, and taking part in activities. We will highlight
everything the bureau does, with a focus on our Operations
division (that solves our logistical issues in innovative ways), our
Research, Markets, and Regulations division (which does original
economic research), and our Supervision office (which ensures that banks
and non-banks are complying with the law). We will
also have general information about opportunities for internships and
employment in the federal government and CFPB specifically.
This
is an excellent opportunity for any student who will be in the DC area
over spring break and is interested in
economics, public policy, the financial markets, or the federal
government. We have a limited number of slots available, so any student
who is interested should contact me at bruce.arthur@cfpb.gov
ASAP.
