On 5 October 2017 from 1 – 2:30pm the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) will organize a conference at The Hill Center, John Philips Sousa Hall, D.C entitled, “Scales of Injustice: The Geopolitics of Business, State- Sponsored Extremism, and the Absence of Democracy in Balochistan”. This event focuses on the impact of a mega infrastructure project being initiated by China and Pakistan that also impacts regions of Iran, too.

Specifically, the conference seeks to provide US researchers, policy makers, and the interested public with a survey of the non-adherence to human rights norms in the Pakistani and Iranian parts of Balochistan, offering insights into the geopolitical and economic interests underlying this ongoing tragedy. It will focus particularly on the ruthless implementation of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that has significantly worsened the human right violations perpetuated by Pakistani and Chinese security forces against the Baloch ethnic group. The conference will serve as a platform to bring together expertise of academics, civil society and representatives from Balochistan to discuss constructive and democratic approaches for the future of the region.
