Spring Internship Opportunity with the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama

Job Opportunity for Recent Grads: ProPublica Is Hiring a Senior Reporting Fellow

ProPublica is looking for a senior reporting fellow to join one of America’s most innovative (and fun) investigative newsrooms. Your job will be to do enterprising, hard-hitting stories, whether short, medium or long.

Senior fellows primarily report their own stories — like this one — and also collaborate with other reporters at ProPublica on big projects.
Reporting fellows at ProPublica have gone on to work at The New York Times, Bloomberg, Politico, NPR, Center for Public Integrity and the Chicago Tribune — as well as ProPublica itself.
The fellowship runs for a year, pays $800 per week and includes full benefits. It will be based at our headquarters in New York.
ProPublica is looking for someone who:
  • Recently graduated from college or journalism school, or is relatively early in their journalism career
  • Is committed to aggressively reporting stories about abuses of power
  • Is truly excited about all the possible ways we can do journalism nowadays: from deep data-digging, to working with readers, to marrying narrative and investigative forms
  • Really likes working with others. Everybody at ProPublica has their own superpower, whether it’s sourcing, document-diving, data, engagement or design. And we do our best work together.
ProPublica knows there are great candidates who won’t fit everything we’ve described above, or who have important skills we haven’t thought of. If that’s you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
They are dedicated to improving our newsroom, in part by better reflecting the people we cover. We are committed to diversity and building an inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds and ages. Everyone is encouraged to apply, including women, people of color, LGBTQ people and people with disabilities.
What you should send in:
The most important part by far is your past work. They also ask that you to submit a memo that describes what you’d most want to report on at ProPublica. Lay out a reporting path you would want to follow. What might specific stories be? How should they be told? How would you imagine achieving impact? Show us how you think.
If all of this sounds exciting to you, apply using this form.
The deadline for applications has been extended to Friday, Dec. 1.
Have questions? Email fellowships@propublica.org.
