Korea Economic Institute of America (KEI) Fall 2019 Internship

Position description

KEI is currently seeking graduate students & exceptional undergraduate students with an interest in Asia-Pacific issues for its fall 2019 intern class.  We offer candidates a unique internship opportunity to be integrally involved in the inner workings of an international government policy institute.  Due to the level of work expected of interns, the selection process is highly competitive and only open to the select few. 
KEI interns are directly active in the practice of U.S.-ROK diplomacy and provided maximum exposure to the issues and major players in the field of U.S.-Korea Relations via: report publication, attendance at events, and both peer-to-peer and VIP networking opportunities. At KEI, interns gain experience in the areas of professional writing development, policy research, data collection, economic analysis, and event planning.  

Qualifications

Main Responsibilities
  • Attend and prepare short analytical reports on conferences, programs & hearings in the Washington, D.C. Area of interest;
  • Assist with the event planning and conducting of various KEI-sponsored conferences and programs;
  • Provide research support for KEI staff
  • Provide administrative activities which will contribute to a fuller understanding of the inner workings of KEI and work as a team with members of staff and other interns on major events and projects
  • Track specific issues in the media
Qualifications
  • Graduate student and exceptional undergraduate student with a background in political scienceeconomicsinternational relations, or Asian studies;
  • Have an interest in Asia-Pacific issues, especially Korea, preferred;
  • Excellent attention to detail, good organizational abilities and writing skills, professional demeanor, general office skills and strong computer skills;
  • Excellent writing and analysis skills
Have experience working with Social Media or putting together Press Releases? Mention it in your application! KEI will also be looking for candidates who could qualify for our Communications/Media Internships.

Fall Free Expression Internship with PEN America

PEN America’s Washington, DC office seeks motivated interns to support our work promoting free expression and supporting writers at risk in the United States and around the world. This work includes research and advocacy on US and global free expression issues, including press freedom, fraudulent news, digital rights, surveillance and privacy rights, whistleblower protections, access to information, and other issues. 
Interns will have the opportunity to draft advocacy materials including press releases, memos, and briefing papers; interact with congressional offices, the executive branch, and other non-profit organizations; and help organize events in Washington. Interns will help manage a database of key contacts in Washington (congressional and executive branch, media, and civil society organizations).
Interns will play a strong role in our advocacy through engaging in our legislative outreach, drafting memos on emerging and ongoing projects, and conduct research on issues of particular interest to them that PEN America  should be active in
Interns will provide support for the Washington, DC office, including the following tasks:
    • Work closely with the Washington Director and Advocacy Coordinator to track and respond to current events related to free expression issues in the U.S. and abroad
    • Draft press and advocacy materials, social media, and web content
    • Support legislative outreach
    • Conduct research and prepare memos
    • Conduct research on writers facing severe threats globally
    • Help plan and organize events
    • Explore issues of personal interest relating to PEN America’s mission

The following skills will be taken into consideration:
    • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of free expression
    • Superb writing skills, including the ability to craft clear, user-friendly language
    • Strong research and analytical skills
    • Keen logistical eye for details and excellent organizational skills
    • Strong familiarity with social media platforms
    • Knowledge of U.S. or global human rights and free expression issues
    • Fluency in Google Drive document management and suite of applications

Internship with Congresswoman Hayes - Apply by August 1

Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (D-CT) is pleased to announce paid fall internship opportunities in her Washington, DC and Waterbury, CT offices. Internships are designed to offer students and recent graduates direct participation in public service through supporting our offices' constituent engagement and services, administrative responsibilities, and research. Interns' responsibilities will vary depending on the office in which they work. They will be asked to answer phones, assist with correspondence, coordinate and conduct tours, research legislation, assist with constituent casework, develop the Congresswoman’s community outreach, and attend hearings and briefings on various issues.

Qualified candidates must be friendly, organized, flexible, and possess the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Fall internships are available from mid-August through mid-December, with start and end dates tailored to accommodate an academic calendar year. Internship hours follow the floor schedule in Washington, DC, and run 9:00-5:00 PM on weekdays in Waterbury, CT.

Internship with the Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce is offering internship opportunities to motivated students and graduates interested in gaining hands-on political experience in the Executive Branch. Participants will learn and assist with the essential tasks of government professionals and will have opportunities to network within the Administration. Upon successful completion of the program, interns will receive a letter of recommendation and class credit where available.

Hours are flexible and schedules are adjustable to accommodate school, work, and family obligations.

Fall 2019 internship: Jewish Federations of North America

The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA)’s Washington Office, the policy arm of JFNA, is seeking a part-time intern for fall 2019 who wants to pursue their interests in Jewish communal work, national policy and advocacy, and/or program management.
JFNA is among the top 10 charities in the world. JFNA’s Washington Office brings the voice of 146 Jewish community federations and over 300 independent Jewish communities throughout North America to Capitol Hill and the Administration as a prominent force in policy decision-making. Interns will have the unique opportunity to work on a diverse range of issues, including: promoting health policies that help older adults age with dignity; protecting programs for vulnerable populations, such as domestic violence victims, LGBTQ+ persons, people with disabilities, refugees, and low-income families; supporting a strong U.S.-Israel relationship; safeguarding the Jewish community from terrorism; and more. Interns will learn innovative approaches to community engagement by organizing and informing local grassroots networks of Jewish federations and affiliated social service agencies. The day-to-day responsibilities of a JFNA internship may include, but are not limited to, attending congressional hearings and meetings with congressional staff, taking part in advocacy/leadership training days, drafting action alerts and other advocacy materials, compiling and analyzing surveys, assisting with conference or meeting planning, and researching and writing on a variety of public policy topics.
Interns will work with the Center for Advancing Holocaust Survivor Care (Center), which promotes national expansion of innovative, person-centered, trauma-informed programs and services for Holocaust Survivors and other older adult victims of trauma. Interns will assist the Center’s efforts in providing support to dozens of community-based social service agencies across the country by completing tasks such as assisting with the development and production of training webinars and workshops, processing reports, drafting and editing policy memoranda and tracking and analyzing data.

7/22 Deadline! Spiros Consulting Fall Internship

Spiros Consulting is a national Democratic opposition research firm in Washington, D.C., and we're currently looking for interns for Fall 2019. We do research and policy work for candidates and interest groups across the country.

Applicants should be at least in their sophomore year, have a strong understanding of national politics, and be able to work at least 15-20 hours a week. Campaign experience is a major plus, but not a requirement.

This is a paid internship with a $2,000 stipend for the semester.

The office of Congressman A. Donald McEachin (Virginia-04) is currently seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated applicants for a fall internship in the Washington, D.C. office. Qualified candidates will possess exceptional writing and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and an interest in the legislative process. Congressman Balderson's D.C. Office is seeking interns for fall 2019. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is in session, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when not in session.

In Washington, D.C. interns' responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.
