A Seat at the Table: Stories and lessons from UMD alumni at the ‘table’

Description:

What does it mean to have a "seat at the table?" How does one get there? Who are your table guests? And how do you use your voice and influence within your organization once at the table? Join the College and Behavioral Sciences alumni who sit at this proverbial table within their respective industries and organizations. Learn from their leadership and personal experiences to help you navigate your career path and earn your seat at the table.

• Who: Open to alumni and students. 
• What: A moderated panel event featuring BSOS/UMD alumni serving in senior positions, discussing their experiences in senior positions, which explores workplace collaboration, management styles, career and professional development, diversity and inclusion, etc. Each panel will focus on a specific theme. 
• Where: Virtual program offered on Zoom
• When: Monthly/Bi-Monthly program
• Why: Provide an engagement opportunity for mid-senior level alumni.

Update and Refine Your Resume

• Who: Alumni (students may join, but presentation will be geared toward alumni)
• What: A resume workshop with a career professional and hiring official sharing tips and best practices in formating, organizing, and summarizing experiences and marketable skills. 
• Where: Virtual program offered on Zoom
• When: September 2020
• Why: Provide a free workshop to alumni in need of a resume update.

Virtual Networking: Get the most out of LinkedIn

• Who: alumni and students
• What: Provide a presentation on how to effectively use Linkedin for expanding your network, particularly as we all find ourselves on virtual forums. 
• Where: Virtual program offered on Zoom
• When: October 2020 
• Why: Provide a free workshop to alumni interested on how to better use Linkedin for networking purposes. 

Surviving a recession: Tips from 2008/2009 Graduates 

• Who: Best for young alumni and students 
• What: Host a panel event featuring BSOS alumni who graduated during the last recession. Alumni will share stories about their career exploration experiences,highlight the importance of adaptability and the ability to pivot when the opportunity presents itself. 
• Where: Virtual program offered on Zoom
• When: November 2020
• Why: Highlight various alumni 

Terrapins Connect 101 

• Who: Best for young alumni and students 
• What: A walk through the platform to highlight the platform's features, demonstrate how it works and share some success stories from both students and alumni.   
• Where: Virtual program offered on Zoom
• When: January 2021
• Why: Highlight an additional UMD resource open to BSOS young alumni
