Program Description:
Throughout the academic year students are taught about the interworking of government and legislation. Students participate in leadership workshops and conferences to improve their public speaking, leadership skills, and understanding of civics. Each participant devotes the year to researching a community concern that is important to them and then create a bill that is reflective to the concern. The program culminates in March where various delegations from the area participate in Legislative Weekend which is a two day mock government simulation exercise. During Legislative Weekend students/delegates present their bills to each other and volte on the bills. Students with outstanding participation and/or bills are then selected to attend the YMCA National Conference on National Affairs (CONA) in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
