The
Center for American Politics and Citizenship
(CAPC) coordinates many exciting opportunities for students interested
in Government and Politics. A past participant in the Maryland
Internship Program had this to say:
While
working in Annapolis, I
had the opportunity to meet with a variety of political actors,
including other members, lobbyists, and constituent groups. I learned a
great deal about the practical realities of legislating, which are
entirely different from the academic theoretical models
of the policy process. The experience with Delegate Rudolph
simultaneously honed my research and writing skills, taught me to
deliver concise and informative content for different interest groups
(letters to constituents, testimony for a Congressional hearing,
and information for the Delegate himself), and improved my interpersonal
skills.
CAPC
and the Department of Government
and Politics offer three exciting internship programs to help University
of Maryland undergraduates gain real-world experience in government and
public policy, coupled with classroom training: the Maryland
Internship Program (MIP), Capitol Hill Internship Program (CHIP), and Public Policy Internship Program (PPIP). You will have the opportunity to
intern
in federal, state and local government offices and agencies for a
semester, earning course credit and valuable experience.
Applications
are currently
being accepted for the Maryland Internship Program’s Summer 2013 Session
(deadline April 8, 2013). Applications for the fall semester for all
three programs will be accepted on a rolling basis.
