Quantitative Social Research Masters in Finland

The University of Tampere is offering a comparative and multidisciplinary Master's Degree program in quantitative social research. The program is designed to teach students to use quantitative methods from political science, economics, and sociology to address issues that involve strategic behavior ranging from institution design, policy design, and implementation, and decision-making. The methods used include social choice theory, game theory, and basic micro-economic intuition/analysis. 

The program provides students with a solid background in quantitative methods used in political science, economics, and other social sciences necessary for understanding key elements of social structures, including institutions, policy design and implementation, and the problems related to processes of voting, deliberation, and decision making. Coursework will emphasize both practical and theoretical understanding of the issues. 

Additionally, the program aims to prepare students for postgraduate studies, independent research work as well as for professional activity at various tasks in society, ranging from policy positions to business positions. Potential positions include but are not limited to work as a consultant, researcher, in governmental positions or in NGOs, work in policy analysis and design. The program also provides an essential background in policy and other social science issues for people wishing to work as translators for governmental institutions. 

Admission Requirements:

• Bachelors (or equivalent) degree. A degree in a relevant field of study (e.g. Economics, Business Administration, Political Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Cultural Studies, English Philology)
• A good command of English for academic purposes:
• TOEFL 90 Internet-based, 575 paper-based IELTS 6.5 with no individual score below 5.5 PTE 63

Duration and Extent:

• Two academic years of full-time study (120 credits)
