Our unique classes are designed exclusively for the program and are taught by local adjunct faculty who are experts in their fields. All courses promote interactive and in-depth academic study of the artistic, literary, economic and political heritage of London, Britain and the world beyond. Faculty use the city as a classroom and students are offered unprecedented access to the diverse and comprehensive amenities of London. A highlight for Government and Politics students is ‘British Politics’, which fulfils major degree requirements and will give you a deeper understanding of the current British political scene. You’ll examine the post-1945 British political culture; analyze the interaction between the formal government and informal political institutions; and consider whether the UK and the US really do have a special relationship. You can also opt for classes in Art History, Anthropology, Economics, English Literature, History and Theatre.
The program encourages students to engage with local people and culture. In addition to Maryland courses, you may take one class with British students at the prestigious local partner institution, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). QMUL is ranked in the top 10 of UK universities and it has over 20 Government and Politics courses on offer each semester. Alternatively, step beyond the classroom and add an exciting academic work placement (internship) to your registration. Past students selecting the work placement option have interned for political parties, campaign offices, not-for-profit political organizations, think tanks, and pressure groups.
Applications are now open for the fall of 2015 and are reviewed on a rolling admissions basis until the deadline on March 1st
