Biography
Jacob S.
Hacker is Stanley Resor Professor of Political Science and Director of
the Institution for Social and Policy Studies at Yale University. An expert on
the politics of US health and social policy in cross-national perspective, he
is the author or co-author of five books, numerous journal articles, and a wide
range of popular writings on American politics and public policy, with a focus
on health and economic security. With the support of the Rockefeller
Foundation, he directs the Economic Security Index, a multi-year project
examining economic insecurity in the United States, and he currently serves as
a member of the High-Level Expert Group on the Measurement of Economic
Performance and Social Progress, housed at the Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development. He recently
won the Heinz Eulau Prize of the American Political Science Association for his
2013 article “The Insecure American,” written with Philipp Rehm and Mark
Schlesinger. His latest book is Winner-Take-All Politics: How Washington
Made the Rich Richer and Turned Its Back on the Middle Class (2011, Simon
and Schuster), written with Paul Pierson. His next book, also co-authored with
Pierson, will be published in spring 2015: American
Amnesia: Rediscovering the Forgotten Roots of American Prosperity.
