Established by Congress in 1974, the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is the country's single largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans. LSC currently funds 134 independent, non-profit legal aid organizations with more than 800 offices throughout the nation. LSC's mission is to promote equal access to justice and provide grants for high-quality civil legal assistance.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
LSC is accepting applications from current undergraduate, graduate, and law school students. Ideal candidates can work independently, will have excellent research and writing skills and an interest in public service, government or congressional affairs, public affairs or communications. Should have a good understanding of social media and working knowledge of Microsoft Office projects (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
The intern's principle duties and responsibilities include:
- Respond to congressional inquiries;
- Track legislation and monitor Congressional activity;
- Research and write to prepare materials for congressional staff;
- Draft news releases, media alerts and other media materials;
- Track electronic and print media;
- Assist in the development and updating of media lists and other databases;
- Monitor of social media; and
- Other research projects as assigned.
HOURLY RATE:
This position is paid hourly. Hourly rate is based on class year: $11.50-$14.50 for undergraduates and $15.50-$17.50 for graduate/law students.
