Community Outreach Campaign Internship Delegate Alonzo T. Washington is seeking ambitious, driven, enthusiastic students and recent graduates interested in learning about community organizing to join our team in Prince George’s County. If you aspire to work on a campaign in the future, this is a great opportunity to add experience to your resume and network in Maryland/local politics.
The internship will introduce interns to:
Engaging in political messaging and persuasion conversations with voters through doorto-door canvassing and phone calls;
Attending and engaging with events and volunteer opportunities in the District;
Recruiting and developing relationships with volunteers; and
Basic logic of electoral organizing and how organizing programs are developed.
The internship will provide interns with the opportunity to:
Meet and network with legislators, advocates, and community leaders from around Prince
George’s County;
Develop communications and mass media skills through working with staff on the
campaign’s message strategies; and
Gain a deeper understanding of the various aspects of campaigning through working
closely with Delegate Washington and his staff.
Ideal applicants for the position will have the following skills and qualities:
Strong organizational skills;
Ability to connect with others and build strong relationships;
Excellent public speaking and written communication skills;
Ability to maintain a strong attention to detail; and
Willingness to maintain a commitment to a team. Interns must work a minimum of 10
hours per week.
Interns will receive a small stipend following the election (July 19th). We are also happy to comply with any necessary paperwork for course credit or community service hours. There is no prior experience necessary. Applicants should have a laptop, cell phone, and access to a vehicle.
