Communications Intern

NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland (NPCM), the state's largest grassroots pro-choice organization, has been working to protect choice for nearly 30 years.

Our mission is to develop and sustain a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion.

NPCM is seeking a Communications Intern to provide technical support, help with online outreach efforts, and assistance with general oral and written communications. 

Responsibilities:

• Maintain Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking profiles; track membership details
• Assist with the update of our online reproductive health guide, including research and written content;
• Update website as needed
• Expand internet outreach efforts
• Help staff with day-to-day office operations

• Assist with other organizational projects as needed, including assisting with volunteer and fundraising events.

Qualified applicants will:

·         Possess excellent writing, researching, and editing skills; be familiar with Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel and social networking sites;

·         Possess strong organizational/multi-tasking skills and have an ability to meet deadlines on time;

·         Be a self-starter who can take initiative on individual projects;

·         Be able to work well alone and in cooperative decision-making settings;

·         Support the full range of reproductive options for women including birth control, bearing healthy children, adoption, and safe, legal abortion.

Class credit may be arranged with your college or university. Modest stipend available. Scheduling is flexible based on applicant’s availability. A minimum of 15 hours per week is required, 20-25 hours per week preferred. Occasional evenings and weekends required. Internship runs early June thru August with flexible start and end dates.

Community Outreach Intern

NPCM is seeking a Community Outreach Intern to assist with community outreach and education, provide staff support, and learn the inner workings of a non-profit organization.

Responsibilities:

• Help staff conduct educational outreach activities about relevant choice issues including, but not limited to, staffing community festivals and volunteer events;

• Coordinate volunteers for community outreach events;
• Assist with the planning and implementation of statewide Tour to Expose Fake Clinics, which will educate communities about so-called crisis pregnancy centers;
• Assist with other tasks as needed, including assisting with volunteer and fundraising events.

Qualified applicants will:

·         Possess strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to engage a diverse audience with comfort and confidence;

·         Possess strong organizational/multi-tasking skills, attention to detail and have an ability to meet  deadlines on time;

·         Be a self-starter who is able to take initiative on individual projects;

·         Be a strong writer, researcher, and editor; familiar with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and the Internet;

·         Possess ability to work well independently and in cooperative decision-making settings;

·         Support the full range of reproductive options for women including birth control, bearing healthy children, adoption, and safe, legal abortion.

Some travel required; candidates must have reliable transportation. Modest stipend is available. Class credit may be arranged with your college or university. Special Events / Development Intern

The Special Events / Development Intern position provides an exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience in non-profit fundraising, event planning, and other critical aspects of non-profit development. The Development Intern will assist with special events, membership development, and foundation grants.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the planning and implementation of our largest annual benefit
• Assist in production of donor mailings
• Coordinate volunteers for fundraising events & activities
• Research potential funding sources (foundations, corporations, individuals, public sources)
• Research and summarize issues for use in funding appeals
• Explore grant opportunities and assist with preparation of grant proposals
• Help process in-coming payments and other financial contributions
• Assist in database management (i.e. updating contacts, generating reports)
• Assist with other tasks or events as needed, including volunteer and community outreach events.
