The African Immigrant and Refugee Foundation (AIRF) is an organization that was founded in 2000 to facilitate the effective transition of African Immigrants to American society and to support their productive, sustainable integration into their new homeland. There are volunteer and internship opportunities available to assist in various capacities.
Currently, we are working on developing our youth program for the Fall and outreach and fundraising campaigns. We have a program called Catching Up which helps African youth "catch up" academically, socially and emotionally. We provide tutoring and mentoring among other activities. While we plan to maintain some of the program we will be adding new features like monthly talks, a book club, etc.
We are looking for interns to help with grant research and/or development, facilitate partnerships with other community based organizations, hometown associations and faith based institutions, day to day administrative support, researching and or writing reports and news sources for updates in immigration in general, and specifically with regard to African immigrants, maintenance of social media sites and producing monthly E-newsletters.
Please contact Mrs. Asmara Sium for more information and to get involved: asmara.sium@airfound.org (Please include AIRF intern/volunteer in the subject line) and 202-390-5067
