ICONS Project Seeks Intern
The ICONS Project at the University of Maryland is an experiential learning program that uses customized Web-based tools to support educational simulations and simulation-based training. The mission of the ICONS Project is to advance learning by designing and delivering dynamic role-play simulations for students and professionals worldwide.
Their high school- and university-level programs cast students in the role of decision-makers tasked to resolve contentious political issues of today. The ICONS Project also uses its simulations to support training programs related to conflict resolution, decision making, negotiations, and crisis management.
The ICONS Project is seeking an intern for the Spring 2013 semester. The intern will work with the ICONS staff and will have the chance to learn about how ICONS works with its many clients (i.e.: universities, government agencies, and private companies).
Tasks for the intern will include, but are not limited to:
• Researching countries for ICONS’ “Research Library”
• Simulation research and development
• Research for grant opportunities and other funding
• Participating in ICONS’ pilot simulations (as needed)
Qualifications:
• Student in the International Development and Conflict Management minor OR Government and Politics major
• Sophomore, junior, or senior student
• Excellent research, writing, and editing skills
• Good academic standing
• Excellent organization skills
• Proficient in Word and Excel
• Previous coursework and/or interest in international affairs
• Available 11-15 hours per week
Desired Skills:
• Grant-writing and/or proposal writing experience
• International travel/experience a plus
• Prior ICONS simulation experience a plus
• Good team player and interpersonal skills
The internship is unpaid. If selected, interviews will take place between January 28th, 2013 and February 1st, 2013. Internships will start the week of February 4th, 2013.
