Food & Water Watch Internship

Job Title: Intern – Food & Water Watch Antibiotics Campaign

Location: Montgomery County, MD

Term: We are looking for interns and volunteers to begin immediately

Hours: 15-20 hours per week preferred for interns, 5-10 hours per week for volunteers

Campaign Description: Chesapeake Bay is the home of important and iconic species like the Blue Crab and Bald Eagle, but every summer pollution causes a 40 mile “dead zone” in the Bay where fish and aquatic life cannot survive. To fight this problem, Maryland resident stepped up to the plate to contribute to the Bay Restoration Fund, but Big Chicken companies like Perdue, who produce 50% of the pollution, don’t contribute their fair share. The good news is we can solve this problem and hold Big Chicken accountable. Right now we’re working with Senators in Maryland to introduce the Poultry Fair Share Act, which would end Big Chicken’s free ride and make the biggest polluters of the Bay pay to clean it up. In Montgomery County, we are working specifically to make sure Senator Raskin is a champion for the Bay as a co-sponsor of the Act by building a groundswell of grassroots support in his district, District 20.

Job Activities/Scope: Interns and volunteers will provide support to all aspects of the Food & Water Watch campaign, including student and community-member recruitment, leadership development, and grassroots visibility tactics. Interns will have the opportunity to work with Food & Water Watch volunteers and staff and on their own college campuses.

  • Ability to converse comfortably on the phone
