UMD
Data Challenge 2019 needs your support!
The
UMD Data Challenge 2019 is a week-long annual event that provides an
opportunity for students across UMD colleges and programs to compete in solving
real-world problems using data provided by partner organizations - including
UMD Centers and Units. With hundreds of participating students, we need your
help!
February 23 - March 2, 2019
University of Maryland, College Park
Mentor UMD Students:
Enjoy a hands-on experience mentoring UMD
students. No data or teaching background is needed - just an enthusiasm for
helping students!
- Mentor a student team of four
- Attend the opening day event on Feb 23,
9am-5pm @ the Student Union
- Guide your team through the basic steps
of problem-solving (guidance will be provided to you)
- Be available to your team by email
throughout the week
- Optional: Attend the
Mentor/Researcher Team Building Event on Feb 1 to learn more about
how to be a mentor and mingle with other mentors
|
Optional: Attend final presentations and judging
on March 2
All
UMD faculty and staff members who have a knack for problem-solving are
encouraged to participate as a mentor. To sign up, please complete our Mentor Form by January 20.
Submit a Dataset:
Support UMD students by providing a dataset
for the Data Challenge 2019. From client demographics to website traffic
records, students will analyze the data, determine key findings, and help
solve real problems or unveil new information.
- There is no limit on the number of
datasets that sponsors can provide
- Provide software codes or API’s to
extract data instead
- Submit a short statement about why you
would like to have this dataset researched, or include a problem
statement to guide the participants' exploration
- All datasets must be complete and
cleaned so the student participants do not have to take the time to
complete these actions
Any
type of complete datasets are welcome. To let us know you are interested in
submitting a dataset, please complete our Dataset Form by January 20.
