Duties
The Student Trainee position is assigned to the Affordable Housing Research Technology Division(AHRT) within the Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R). The incumbent serves as a Student Trainee under the Pathways Intern Program performing a variety of developmental assignments designed to provide a practical understanding of the programs, policies, and objectives of the agency as well as furnish experience in the application of principles, procedures, and work techniques pertinent to assigned specialized subject-matter fields of work.
The Affordable Housing Research and Technology (AHRT) Division focuses on building technology, energy conservation, green building, transit-oriented development, regulatory barriers to affordable housing and smart growth. The Division also works closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on research, planning, and technology related to disaster recovery.

Duties
The Student Trainee position is assigned to the Program Evaluation Division (PED) within the Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R). The incumbent serves as a Student Trainee under the Pathways Intern Program performing a variety of developmental assignments designed to provide a practical understanding of the programs, policies, and objectives of the agency as well as furnish experience in the application of principles, procedures, and work techniques pertinent to assigned specialized subject-matter fields of work.
The Program Evaluation Division (PED) designs, procures, and manages research to evaluate HUD’s programs and demonstrations covering a broad range of areas not limited to federally assisted housing, housing finance, homelessness, social determinants of health, housing for special needs populations such as the elderly and people with disabilities, housing discrimination and mobility, Native American housing, and community development. Research produced by the division provides policymakers with reliable evidence to inform policy decisions.

The incumbent serves as a Student Trainee under the Pathways Intern Program performing a variety of developmental assignments designed to provide a practical understanding of the programs, policies, and objectives of the agency as well as furnish experience in the application of principles, procedures, and work techniques pertinent to assigned specialized subject-matter fields of work.
The Research Utilization Division disseminates policy and research developments and reaches out to its stakeholders, using innovative communication vehicles and technology. The dissemination effort provides information, research findings, and market data, and housing policy and research translations on-line, in publications, and in-person. The intern will work on policy translation and dissemination of research. The intern will work on articles for the on-line magazine the Edge, PD&R’s vehicle to communicate about best practice and research findings in housing and community development. In addition, the intern will work on larger policy translation pieces for Evidence Matters, the quarterly publication on varied housing and community development topics. Strong writing skills and background in housing and community development/urban policy needed.
