The office of Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51) is seeking unpaid interns for Fall 2014
(approximately beginning of September – middle of December) and Spring
2015 (approximately beginning of January - end of April) in a fast-paced office
where they will gain valuable exposure to and knowledge of the legislative
process and the United States Congress. Congressman Vargas represents the 51st Congressional District which includes all or part of San Diego and Imperial Counties covering the entire California-Mexico border region.
Applicants should be positive, motivated, organized and
reliable individuals willing to assist with the legislative, press and
administrative needs of the staff. Duties include greeting constituents,
answering phones, leading tours of the Capitol, opening and sorting mail,
attending briefings, performing legislative research, drafting press releases
and social media posts, and various other tasks to assist staff. Applicants
must have strong written and oral communication skills. Successful interns will
be able to find information with little assistance, be able to work both
independently as well as part of a team environment, and possess a strong
attention to detail. California connections are preferable, but not required.

Please include a brief synopsis of your interest in interning for a congressional office, your issues of interest (Agriculture, Health, Foreign Affairs, Veterans, Immigration, Environment, etc.).Our fall, winter and summer programs offer flexible hours to easily coincide with a student's school schedule. We require a minimum of 8 hours per week. The office will continue to hire until position is filled.
