The University of Maryland Education Abroad Office is offering three semester long internships. All internships are unpaid.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTIONS
Design & Marketing Internship
Expertise: visual design for print and web
This intern will report to the Assistant Director for Advising and Outreach
to design and create visually appealing marketing and outreach materials for
both print and online materials. Projects may include:
- Designs
print materials such as flyers, posters and brochures
- Organizes
flickr account and edits images for web and print
- Creates
visual exhibits for display cases and bulletin boards
- Researches
new and innovative ways of promoting EA at UMD
- Carries
out critique of design and aesthetics of both print and web resources
- Develops
video resources
· Conceptualizes
and proposes projects/ideas that advance EA’s mission and which are uniquely
supported by the intern’s particular skills set/knowledge/interests.
- Other
duties as assigned.
Preferences: Experience using Adobe creative suite; Interest in video
production and editing;
Additional
application requirements: Design
sample. Submission of a 3 to 5 minute self-authored clip showcasing the
student’s production abilities.
Online
Communications Internship
Expertise: social media strategies and online content development
Expertise: social media strategies and online content development
This intern will
report to the Applications Coordinator to support and upkeep EA’s social media
sites. He/she will also assist with EA’s news listserv – soliciting and
posting content. Other projects may include:

Designs listserv layout and develops content
for biweekly issues.
·
Researches social media strategies and
features for connecting to students and stakeholders and helps to carry these
out.
· Assists
with updates to MyEA content including application materials and brochures –
gives input on language choices, layout, and overall content
· Carries
out critique of accessibility and clarity for all online resources
· Researches
innovative ideas for using visual and/or interactive media in MyEA and the
website.
· Conceptualize
and propose projects/ideas that advance EA’s mission and which are uniquely
supported by the intern’s particular skills set/knowledge/interests.
· Other duties as assigned.
Preferences: Communications major,
experience using social media accounts to represent a group or organization,
knowledge of html and JavaScript.
Diversity Initiatives Internship
Expertise: underrepresented students in study abroad
Expertise: underrepresented students in study abroad
This intern will work closely with an EA Advisor and the
Assistant Director for Advising and Outreach on initiatives geared towards
supporting students who are underrepresented in study abroad. At UMD this
category includes but is not limited to racial and ethnic minorities, first
generation college students, males and students with high financial need.
Projects may include:
- Identifies and
corresponds with student organizations to promote study abroad
- Represents Education
Abroad at presentations and on student panels
- Helps to organize the
Welcome Back Dinner for minority student study abroad alumni
- Conceptualizes and
proposes projects/ideas that advance EA’s mission and which are uniquely
supported by the intern’s particular skills set/knowledge/interests.
- Collects data about
expectations and the decision-making process of underrepresented students
regarding studying abroad
- Other duties as
assigned.
Preferences: An expressed interest in working to
support students who are traditionally underrepresented in study abroad.
Students who identify with an underrepresented group are strongly encouraged to
apply.
Preferred qualifications:
· Experience living, working or studying abroad
· Ability to devote 8 to 10 hours weekly
· Junior, Senior or Graduate student

Internship Requirements:
· Enthusiasm, reliability, strong communication skills, and genuine interest in international education.
· Weekly check-in meetings with supervisor
· Ability to complete projects in a timely and responsible manner.
· Willingness to support the daily processes of the Education Abroad office.
