The Maryland Sierra Club offers many internship and volunteer
opportunities. Conveniently located on Route 1, students can take advantage of
their diverse openings.The interns become part of the office team and are essential to accomplishing many of the chapter's conservation goals. Working side by side with staff and lead volunteers, interns get the opportunity to see how a grassroots non-profit works, gain valuable real world experience, and become the next generation of activist leaders.Listed below are open internship positions.
Beyond Coal Listening
Project Intern: The
Baltimore Beyond Coal Listening Project Interns will form a small creative team
that will interview a diverse range of community members suffering from asthma
or other health problems related to Baltimore’s poor air quality. The team will
share these stories with the public through creative online and offline media.
Responsibilities include: finding, researching, and interviewing a diverse
range of people in Greater Baltimore. Working with a team to creatively share
stories with the general public. Publicizing stories using social media
and/or in-person events. Assisting in compiling weekly reports on
accomplishments for Sierra Club senior staff.
Beyond Coal Energy
Intern: The
Maryland Energy Intern will work inside the state’s Beyond Coal Campaign,
helping to move our campaign goals forward through volunteer engagement and
recruitment, research, and campaign strategy development and implementation.
Assist in policy research and clean energy campaign strategy and
implementation. Also, interns draft compelling content for email alerts, newsletters,
blogs, and more. Compile research on local and state-level clean energy
and efficiency programs. Assist in compiling weekly reports on campaign
accomplishments for Sierra Club senior staff. Help create campaign collateral
such as fact sheets, flyers, or other materials.
The
Baltimore Organizing Intern will sit at the center of the Sierra Club’s
Baltimore campaign, helping to coordinate our work with hundreds of volunteers
throughout the area. Assist in event planning and volunteer outreach. Interns will maintain a social media presence for the campaign via
Facebook, Twitter, and blogging. Additional responsibilities include: drafting compelling content for email alerts, newsletters,
letters to the Editor, and more. Assist in
coordinating regular grassroots phone banks and in
compiling weekly reports on organizing accomplishments for Sierra Club senior
staff. Help maintain and update field organizing tools and materials.
