Summer Orientation Peer Advisor Application 2024

 The Feller Center is looking for undergrads to apply to work as BSOS Orientation Peer Advisors for this summer spring. Would you mind sharing the application to the websites, social media communications, blogs, and other outreach channels your office manages?

The Feller Center is seeking organized and dedicated undergraduate students to assist with the preparation and operation of New Student Orientation for Summer 2024.  Job responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Feller Center Orientation Coordinators to conduct new student orientation programs
  • Introducing UMD and BSOS policies to incoming students
  • Overseeing the BSOS Orientation ELMS
  • Preparing student files and records
Experience with Peer Mentoring, orientation, or BSOS programming is preferred but all students are encouraged to apply!

Voyager-Obama Scholarship for Public Service - Sophomores w/Financial Need

Voyager-Obama Scholarship for Public Service - for Sophomores / Tuition and Travel Support

The Voyager Scholarship, administered by the Obama Foundation and supported by AIRBNB founder Brian Chesky, supports students planning careers in public service by providing up to $50,000 for college costs AND transformative travel experiences.

Important: The Voyager Scholarship is for students who are Sophomores in Spring 2024, who have demonstrated financial need, have a GPA of at least 3.0, and plan to pursue careers in public service.

Application deadline: March 27, 2024 (application opens February 7, 2024)

Benefits of the Voyager Scholarship:

  • Financial aid up to $50,000: Students will receive up to $25,000 per year in “last dollar” financial aid to cover remaining tuition and/or living costs for their junior and senior years of college. 

  • Students will design their own summer voyage between their junior and senior year of college with a budget of $10,000.

  • 10-year travel stipends: After graduation, Airbnb will provide the students with a $2,000 travel credit every year for 10 years, totaling $20,000.

  • Access to annual Summit Meetings

Eligibility: to apply for Voyager Scholarships students must:

  • Demonstrate financial need (as determined by FAFSA)
  • Be finishing their sophomore year in Spring 2024
  • Plan to enroll full-time as a junior in Fall 2024. 
  • Have four (4) semesters or six (6) quarters of full-time academic coursework remaining before graduating
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to public service
  • Plan to pursue a career in public service upon graduation
  • Be a United States (U.S.) citizen, U.S. permanent resident (holder of a Permanent Resident Card), or an individual granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA).

Pre-Law Advising Office LSAT Prep Course Awards

The Pre-Law Advising Office & Kaplan Test Prep (with the generous support of the Office of Letters & Sciences) have partnered to provide affordable LSAT prep to students across UMD intending to apply to law school during the 2023-24 application cycle. The application is open to undergraduate students and alumni, but please note that current students will be given priority. For more information, please see the application. The annual Career and Internship Fair, hosted by the University Career Center, provides UMD students and alumni with an opportunity to meet with employers to discuss internship, full-time and part-time employment opportunities. This fair will take place over 3 days, 2 of which will be in STAMP Student Union, with the last day taking place online via Careers4Terps.

Feller Center Peer Mentor Application - Spring 2022

Through their service to fellow students, BSOS Peer Mentors gain valuable skills in public speaking/presentation, professionalism, and leadership. Peer Mentors primarily facilitate BSOS Graduation Planning Workshops each semester and conduct various presentations in BSOS UNIV100 classes.
