Fall Internships with Congresswoman Donna Edwards

The Office of Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) is seeking qualified interns to serve in the Capitol Hill office in Washington D.C. and District office in Suitland, Maryland. Applicants should have a familiarity with the legislative process, have a desire to learn while being a part of a hardworking team, and be dedicated to serving the citizens of Maryland. Interns from the 4th Congressional district are strongly preferred. 

Legislative Internship

The Washington, D.C. intern experience is designed to immerse interns in all areas of a Congressional work environment. Interns are required to exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and will be expected to conduct legislative research, and assist staff with administrative duties. In addition, interns will respond to constituent letters and requests, answer phones and greet constituents, attend hearing and briefings, and complete projects in specific issue areas as requested.

Constituent Service Internship

In addition to many of the responsibilities above, Constituent Service Interns will work primarily in our District Offices to assist Constituent Service Representatives. Responsibilities include assisting with constituent files, gathering information from federal agencies, and answering constituent calls. S/he will monitor congressional inquiries through online databases.

Outreach Internship

The Outreach Intern works primarily in the District office supporting the team with a variety of outreach projects and activities, including event planning, and advocacy communications. The Outreach Intern also conducts project research using the web and traditional sources such as booth set up at events. S/he helps develop several databases and lists of state, local/civic, and federal organizations and government agencies. S/he must monitor local and national media through print, online/blog and television news media. The Outreach Intern also responds to outreach-related initiatives and assists with general outreach efforts.

Undergraduates and recent graduates of any major are encouraged to apply. These internships are unpaid. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Executive Office Internship Opportunity at the Legal Services Corporation

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
LSC's Executive Office consists of the President, the Vice President for Grants Management, the Chief of Staff, the Special Assistant to the President and the Project Coordinator. The Executive Office oversees the implementation of policies set by LSC's Board of Directors, and manages the Corporation's operations, including the planning, development and implementation of all major LSC initiatives.
The primary objectives of the internship are for the intern to:
  1. Conduct research that supports LSC's goals and mission;
  2. Work independently and collaboratively on projects assigned from Executive team members;
  3. Learn time management skills while working on multiple time-sensitive projects; and
  4. Participate in a broad range of activities that give the intern exposure to all offices across LSC.

  5. Performing various administrative functions.

The intern's hours will be 15 hours per week during the Fall. The internship will run from late August to December 2015.
The intern's principal duties and responsibilities include:
  1. Draft background memos on prospective donors;
  2. Prepare and send acknowledgement letters, and maintain records of LSC donations on Excel and Salesforce;
  3. Research and prepare summaries of new foundations;
  4. Research project proposals;
  5. Manage current projects and compile research for current privately-funded projects;
  6. Update and prepare LSC's Campaign for Justice website;
  7. Research event venues and caterers;
  8. Maintain guest and speaker lists;
  9. Work with key high profile individuals in preparation for events, and when necessary, staff major fundraising events; and
  10. Perform general administrative functions.
SALARY:
This internship is paid an hourly rate based on undergraduate year. The range is $11.50-14.50 per hour.

Spiros Consulting Fall 2016 Internships

Spiros Consulting is a national Democratic opposition research firm located in DC currently looking for interns for Fall 2016. Spiros does research and policy work for candidates and interest groups across the country.

Candidates should be at least in their sophomore year, have a strong understanding of national politics, and be able to work 15-20 hours a week. Campaign experience is a major plus, but not a requirement.

This is a paid internship with a $1,000 stipend for the semester.

A Little More About Spiros Consulting

Program Dates & Information:

We offer flexible start dates. Our Fall program will begin the week of August 1 through beginning of December. Interns hours are flexible based on individual needs but all interns should expect to work at least 30 hours/week.
