Summary of Job Description: The resident assistants will live in Fraternity and Sorority housing on campus, with approximately 20 students, and assume primary responsibility for managing the daily needs of the students and shaping an environment that supports academic and personal development.

 COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Under direction, the Community Outreach Coordinator assists with developing, maintaining, and promoting effective community and intergovernmental relationships with Municipal Leaders, Civic Associations, Advocacy Groups, Constituents, and other relevant organizations identified by the Legislative Aide and Delegate Washington.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Community Outreach Coordinator will report directly to the Legislative Aide.

TIME COMMITMENT:

Part time position (15-20 hours/wk.) to include evening and some weekend hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Community Outreach Coordinator will:

 Attend and represent the Delegate at all Civic Association, PTA, and community

meetings. The Community Outreach Coordinator will: Obtain thorough descriptions and

details prior to community events and meetings; Brief the Delegate on all relevant

community concerns following each community event and meeting; Provide outreach

materials to constituents and record relevant information, such as name, address, phone

number, and e-mail address

 Send an introductory e-mail to constituents following a community meeting or outreach

event

 Manage and maintain the constituent database

 Establish and maintain frequent contact with Civic Association Presidents, PTA

Presidents, and Municipal Leaders. The Community Outreach Coordinator will: Contact

Civic Association Presidents twice a month; Contact Mayors once per month; Attend

Municipal Council meetings once every two months

 Work closely with the Legislative Aide to address individual constituent concerns

brought forth during community meetings and outreach events.

 Develop and execute opportunities for community outreach and education. The

Community Outreach Coordinator will: Facilitate Town Hall and Community Outreach

meetings; Remain abreast of relevant community meetings and events; Assist with

developing content for the monthly newsletter.

 Develop working knowledge of the Delegate’s Legislative agenda and remain

knowledgeable of issues relevant to the District.

 Assist with door-to-door outreach.

 Submit bi-weekly timesheets.

The Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC) in Washington, D.C., seeks interested candidates for a year-long Data Fellowship running from September 2021 to September 2022. The Center is a non-profit organization serving the media and the public with analysis and information on capital punishment. DPIC promotes informed discussion of the death penalty by preparing in-depth reports, conducting briefings for journalists, and serving as a resource to those working on this issue. The Data Fellow is the point person for managing DPIC’s data on death sentences and other aspects of capital punishment and plays a key role in creating DPIC’s data visualizations.

We're looking for someone with strong data analysis skills, the ability to create compelling data visualizations, an interest in the criminal legal system, and a strong commitment to social justice and racial equity.  STUDENT WRITER/COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT:

Job Description: The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland is seeking a motivated part-time writer/communications assistant to help generate content for the College’s website, contribute to the College’s social media presence and support the overall communications goals of the College throughout the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters (and possibly beyond). Applicants must be enrolled in classes at the University of Maryland in the fall 2020 semester.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be available to work up to 15 hours per week (remotely)
  • Write copy that is crisp and to the point, simplifying sometimes complex ideas and terminology for a general audience
  • Be comfortable and experienced interviewing professionals across a wide array of subject matters (via phone or Zoom)
  • Manage multiple assignments, prioritize workloads and produce high-quality work within established deadlines
  • Work independently while maintaining regular contact with supervisors
  • Contribute to and manage social media platforms in a professional setting

 

Preferred experience or familiarity in the following areas:

  • Content management systems for websites (i.e. Drupal)

Research Assistant Opportunities at USIP

The relationship with The Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area (CUWMA) and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) goes back 20+ years and began as an initiative to provide students of the Consortium’s member institutions (which include schools in DC, MD and VA) an opportunity to engage in practical research work while completing their degrees. The students are part-time employees of CUWMA, therefore, the Consortium is responsible for all reporting, taxes, & insurance. USIP is classified as their “worksite location” only. USIP’s contract with CUWMA has evolved over the years to include built-in flexibility in hiring. While recruitment has always focused on CUWMA member schools, any full-time student enrolled in a degree-seeking program from an accredited university based in the Washington-Metro area can be hired for the position if she/he better meets the qualifications.

Job Posting: Research Assistant

Tyler Jost (Brown University), Joshua Kertzer (Harvard University), Eric Min (UCLA), and Robert Schub (University of Nebraska) are working on a project to collect and digitize a large number of government documents from the US National Security Council. They are seeking 5 research assistants from the University of Maryland available to photograph materials at the National Archives at College Park this summer. 

Research assistants must be available to start work in early June and will be expected to work 30-40 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks. Research assistants should be detail oriented and self-motivated. Experience with archival research and interest in US foreign policy are preferred but not required. Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection Looking For a Director’s Financial Analyst

ABOUT THE PROGRAM 
This unique, two-year rotational fellowship sits at the intersection of the federal government and the financial services industry. Director’s Financial Analysts are given the opportunity to hone analytical and problem solving skills while helping to make markets for consumer financial products work for Americans. Members of the Director’s Financial Analyst Program will experience diverse roles, responsibilities, and areas of expertise. As a result, in a short period of time, analysts will play an integral role in everything the Bureau does, from rigorous data-driven policy creation and market monitoring to on-site supervision of market participants.
All analysts will complete developmental rotations in offices throughout the Bureau. These rotations are designed to provide exposure to the analysis, strategy, research, education, policy development, supervision, enforcement, and rulemaking activities throughout the Bureau.
We are recruiting for positions that begin after the 2018-2019 academic year.

Previous Director’s Financial Analysts have used the program as a springboard to further their careers. Some graduates of the program have moved on to:

  • Grad school (e.g., Yale, MIT, Columbia, Harvard)
  • Private industry (e.g., Amazon, Uber, Wells Fargo, PayPal)

Jim Shea for Maryland Positions Available


Jim Shea, who led Maryland’s largest law firm, chaired the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, and has long been deeply engaged in Baltimore and Maryland civic life, is running for Governor of Maryland.

In making his announcement for Governor last month Shea emphasized that Republican Governor Hogan had not done enough to oppose President Trump on issues like immigration, the environment, and his hostility to the courts and press:

Congressional Research Grants

DEADLINE: All proposals must be received no later than April 1, 2016.
The Dirksen Congressional Center invites applications for grants to fund research on congressional leadership and the U.S. Congress.  The Center, named for the late Senate Minority Leader Everett M. Dirksen, is a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit research and educational organization devoted to the study of Congress.  Since 1978, the Congressional Research Grants program has invested more than $998,026 to support over 451 projects. Applications are accepted at any time, but the deadline is April 1 for the annual selections, which are announced in May.
The Center has allocated up to $50,000 in 2016 for grants with individual awards capped at $3,500.
The competition is open to individuals with a serious interest in studying Congress.  Political scientists, historians, biographers, scholars of public administration or American studies, and journalists are among those eligible.  The Center encourages graduate students who have successfully defended their dissertation prospectus to apply and awards a significant portion of the funds for dissertation research.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens who reside in the United States. 

The grants program does not fund undergraduate or pre-Ph.D. study.  Organizations are not eligible.  Research teams of two or more individuals are eligible.  No institutional overhead or indirect costs may be claimed against a Congressional Research Grant.
