Local Campaign Paid Internship Opportunity



2022 MARC ELRICH PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Program Description 

The Marc Elrich for County Executive campaign is seeking interns interested in learning about the inner workings of a grassroots campaign through our unique PAID internship program. Interns will learn about and perform various everyday responsibilities of successful campaigns, including voter contact, volunteer recruitment and management, event staffing, data management, political planning, communications, and campaign research. They will also receive training on how to construct a field program and will have opportunities to take on increased responsibility as the campaign progresses. The program will also include an educational component in which experts will speak with interns about various policy and political topics. Interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis and the internship will run through June 30, 2022 with the possibility to extend into the Fall.

Expectations and Compensation Time Commitment: 

Paid interns will be expected to work 10-25 hours per week depending on interest and availability (details will be finalized after a group of interns is selected). 

Compensation: Interns will start at $16 per hour. Benefits are not included. Successful campaigns are disciplined and accountable, and all participants will be expected to behave professionally throughout this program. Interns are expected to show up to shifts on time and with a positive attitude and to be focused on assigned campaign priorities during their shifts. Interns will also be expected to attend weekly staff meetings, and a willingness to work on weekends is required. Access to a vehicle is a plus but not a requirement (campaign headquarters are located in Rockville near the Twinbrook Metro Station). Paid interns will be expected to sign confidentiality and non-compete form; work for other campaigns through 2022 will require written consent of the campaign. Paid interns are not expected to volunteer for additional hours when their assigned paid hours are complete.

Maryland Summer Scholars Program for 2022

The Maryland Summer Scholars Program (MSS) provides opportunities for University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) undergraduates to spend much of the summer working closely with faculty mentors on ambitious research, scholarly, or artistic projects. The MSS program provides awards of $3,000 to approximately 25-30 undergraduates each summer.


Many Summer Scholars expand their summer research into an independent study or honors thesis project the following autumn semester, and find that their research experience helps distinguish their applications for graduate study, fellowships, internships, employment and other competitive opportunities.

Maryland Summer Scholars (MSS) may conduct their summer research on the College Park campus or elsewhere in the U.S. or abroad as required by the nature of the project. Students whose projects require travel for an extended period of time to off campus locations (not to include regular commuting) may submit a travel supplement request as directed in the online application form. Travel supplements will not exceed $1,000.

Eligibility: You are eligible to apply for an MSS award: if you have earned 12 or more UMD course credits (not including AP or IB credits) by the date of the application deadline; if you have a cumulative UMD GPA of 3.40 or higher by the date of the application deadline (no rounding); and if you expect to receive your undergraduate degree no earlier than December 2021. All academic majors are eligible.

Application Deadline: The deadline to apply for summer 2022 awards will be Sunday, February 14, 2022. It is important that candidates begin developing their proposals as soon as possible.

Paid Remote Summer Internship with DC Public Relations Firm West End Strategy Team

West End Strategy Team is currently accepting applications for paid remote internship positions for the summer 2021 semester. We welcome students from diverse backgrounds to apply and strongly encourage applications from people of color, persons with disabilities, women and LGBTQ candidates.
 
We are a full-service strategic communications firm working in D.C., New York and Chicago, offering clients a comprehensive approach that includes message development, media relations, online strategy, marketing and crisis communications. 
 
Given the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, this internship is being offered remotely. Interns will join the team virtually during normal work hours and will collaborate with staff over the phone and via video calls. If and when conditions improve, we can revisit the possibility of returning to an in-office internship. The safety of our staff and interns will remain our number one priority and guide all decisions.
 
WEST interns have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working closely with progressive, nonprofit and international organizations in a professional setting. Responsibilities include writing and editing materials for distribution to the media, drafting opinion pieces, developing social media content, researching client organizations and their issue areas, researching target journalists and compiling media lists, conducting media outreach, aggregating news content, and various clerical duties. Through this experience, interns will cultivate a working knowledge of highly relevant political and advocacy organizations, the major issues of the day, and the media.
 
Our summer internship is full-time Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET. Interns will work virtually from home, from late May through August 2021.

Summer 2021, Research and Project Coordination Internship, Center for Sustainable Development, Global Economy & Development

Overview

Thinking about a career in public policy? Committed to improving the world we live in? Think Brookings - one of the most influential, most quoted and most trusted think tanks! 

Interns spend approximately 10 weeks remotely working alongside leading experts in government, international economics and development from all over the world. Brookings also offers students the opportunity to intern in departments such as communications, human resources and central operations management. The mission of the Internship Program is to provide students with a pre-professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work experience related to their field of study or career interest. Students engage in career exploration and development as well as learn new skills. 

 

Interns will have the opportunity to attend virtual meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events.  In addition, interns will have the opportunity to network with other interns throughout the Institution.

 

This internship, beginning in June 2021, is an opportunity for graduate or undergraduate students in their sophomore, junior or senior year with an interest in either advancing global sustainable development and/or U.S. community and economic development and promoting geographic equity to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional environment.


This internship pays an hourly rate of $15.00, and applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 20 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule.

Responsibilities

The Global Economy and Development (“Global”) program at Brookings aims to shape the policy debate to improve global economic cooperation and fight global poverty and sources of social stress. The intern will work with its Center for Sustainable Development team, and gain exposure to a broad set of policy topics related to global sustainable development and the sustainable development goals (SDGs) as well as domestic federal policy, while developing their analytical thinking, organizational, and writing skills. 


The intern will assist a senior fellow of the Center for Sustainable Development with either (i) a project to reimagine federal policy for rural community and economic development, alongside other projects, or (ii) the execution of the 17 Rooms initiative – a new convening and problem-solving approach to stimulate cooperative action for the SDGs. Applicants should expect a range of opportunities, broadly defined under the following categories:

 

General research and writing: The intern will support tasks including literature review, conducting data searches, data analysis, database updates, bibliographic support, fact-checking, and contributing to blogs, research briefs, and presentations.


Event Coordination and Administrative Support: During the internship period, there will be virtual meetings and events for which the intern will provide support through drafting invitations, tracking registration, communication with external stakeholders, notetaking, and coordinating travel as required. The intern will also support the scholar by creating PowerPoints, drafting public remarks, and scheduling meetings. 

 

Qualifications

Education/Knowledge/Skills:

 

Graduate students or undergraduate students completing their sophomore, junior, or senior year in a discipline relevant to sustainable development (e.g., economics, political science, heath science, natural science, climate science, public policy). Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in public policy and promoting equity. Candidates with an interest in either (a) the Sustainable Development Goals, or (b) creating local, regional, and national policies that eliminate poverty and sources of distress in rural U.S. communities are strongly encouraged to apply.


Applicants must have some knowledge of qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods research, and experience in conducting literature searches and review. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Coursework related to empirical analysis or quantitative research experience (e.g., economic analysis, working with federal spending data, quantitative analysis of policy impact) a plus. Additionally, applicants should have prior meeting or event coordination experience and a strong attention to detail.

This is a remote only opportunity. This internship requires you to be located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.

Internship, Women and Foreign Policy, Summer 2021

 

Overview

All who are selected to participate in CFR’s Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program receive training in the field of foreign policy and international affairs as well as skills training in writing, research, program planning, and much more.

 

The Council has a internship available in the Women and Foreign Policy program. The intern will build on his or her existing research skills, area/subject knowledge on global gender issues, and writing and editing skills. In addition, the intern will learn about the structure of a think tank.

CFR internships are paid, require a 14 - 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.

 

Summer semester internship opportunities are on a fully remote/virtual basis. 

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • With the support and guidance of the supervisor, draft a blog post for Women Around the World.
  • Assist with writing and editing content, including research memos and briefs, blog posts, book chapters, and other publications, as needed.
  • Conducting research as requested by the research associate and/or fellow on a variety of topics including, economic empowerment, peace and security, child marriage, and education.
  • Assist with the social media presence and marketing strategy for the department, including drafting tweets and brainstorming outreach ideas, as needed.
  • Assist in logistical support for meetings, including but not limited to preparing distribution materials and helping with guest check-in during roundtables and other departmental events, under the supervisor’s direct supervision.
  • Track daily news reports that are relevant for the department.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with an educational concentration in Political Science, International Relations, International Development, Public Policy, Women’s Studies, or a related field
  • All applicants should have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college coursework (not including AP classes in high school) by the time they begin an internship
  • Proven interest in and understanding of women’s role in and relationship to U.S. foreign policy interests
  • Previous internship experience with a think tank, multilateral organization or international development NGO preferred
  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, and strong internet research ability

LCV is seeking a Racial Justice and Equity Intern who will support the Chief Officer for Racial Justice and Equity in aligning our individual, departmental, and the Racial Justice & Equity Working Group’s work plans with LCV’s strategic plan. The internship will provide our Racial Justice and Equity Intern with opportunities to develop a broad understanding of LCV’s efforts to center Racial Justice & Equity in all of our work and how such efforts might be used to help any organization become a more equitable, inclusive, and effective workplace. Special projects include writing a draft report on LCV’s Racial Justice and Equity work over the past 6 years, supporting the Learning, Education, and Growth Opportunities (L.E.G.O.) League plan learning solutions to foster a culture of learning across the organization, and cataloguing our Racial Justice and Equity Resource Library.

The Racial Justice and Equity Intern will join a cohort of LCV interns. Summer interns participate in brown bag lunches with various members of LCV’s senior management team, including President Gene Karpinski.

Intern Will Gain Experience in:

  • Collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data across the organization;
  • Creating organizational assessment tools designed to evaluate LCV’s progress on Racial Justice and Equity;
  • Researching the history of the conservation, environmental, and environmental movements;
  • Developing organizational change management skills centered in principles of Racial Justice and Equity;
  • Creating and implementing Learning and Professional Development for a complex organization.

Qualifications: 

  • Work Experience: 6 months administrative support work, including internship experience preferred.
  • Skills: Highly organized; strong attention to detail; excellent written and oral communications skills; strong research skills; exhibits solid judgment; critical thinking skills; able to work independently and as a team; able to handle multiple tasks; self-starter; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Knowledge of history of race relations within the U.S. preferred.

The Assistant Secretary for Financial Resources (ASFR) seeks student interns to work within the Office of Budget (OB) on policy and budget issues for a variety of HHS programs. The OB plays a lead role in developing the HHS budget, interacting with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Congressional Appropriations Committees, analyzing Congressional actions, and managing communication among stakeholders.  The student internship is generally for 10-12 weeks and is based in Washington, D.C.  This internship may be in-person or virtual, depending on ASFR’s operating status.  If ASFR resumes in-person work during Summer 2021, ASFR will work with interns, as feasible, to be physically present in the office in Washington, D.C.  ASFR successfully hosted interns virtually in Summer 2020.  Start and end dates are negotiable.  Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree and must be returning to school in Fall 2021.

Opportunity at the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau - Apply by Friday!

 ABOUT THE PROGRAM 

This unique, two-year rotational fellowship sits at the intersection of the federal government and the financial services industry. Director’s Financial Analysts are given the opportunity to hone analytical and problem-solving skills while helping to make markets for consumer financial products work for Americans. As a result, in a short period of time, analysts will play an integral role in everything the Bureau does, from rigorous data-driven policy creation and market monitoring to on-site supervision of market participants.

Director’s Financial Analysts have used the program to develop their professional skills and grow their public service networks within a collaborative cohort environment. Alumni of the DFA program have moved on to competitive graduate programs (e.g. Stanford Law, Princeton MPP, Dartmouth MBA), public sector opportunities (e.g. DC city government, Federal Reserve Banks), private industry, and other divisions within the CFPB.

All analysts will complete developmental rotations in offices throughout the CFPB. These rotations are designed to provide exposure to the analysis, strategy, research, education, policy development, supervision, enforcement, and rulemaking activities throughout the Bureau.

We are recruiting for positions that begin after the 2020-2021 academic year.
