MCERT Info Sessions

 

The Master’s Certification Program (MCERT) is a one-year graduate-level teacher preparation program that leads to elementary, middle school, secondary or preK-12 teacher certification and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree. 

Seniors graduating in Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 who are interested in applying should attend the online info sessions to learn more.

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Fellowships

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation offers a semester-long Emerging Leaders Internship Program to create a corps of trained, young leaders with the skills, outlook, and contacts necessary to generate and sustain positive change in DC and their communities. This program will take place in person from Monday, August 28-December 15, 2023. 

Interns receive housing and a $4,000 stipend. Interns will be placed in various congressional offices, committees, subcommittees, or federal agencies. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, be at least a college senior by the program start date, have a permit to work in the US, and have a demonstrated interest in public service, governance, and the policy-making process.

OECD Young Associates Programme

The Young Associates Programme, through the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), is a two-year program for recent undergraduates who wish to gain a first professional experience in the world of multilateral policy-making, research and analysis. It is designed to act as a springboard for them to future postgraduate study. 



To be eligible, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree with graduation date between January 2022 and September 2023 in the academic field related to the position(s) of interest, hold a nationality of an OECD Member country, have a GPA of 3.0+, have fluency in English or French and a commitment to reach a good working level of the other after joining the OECD. 

Applications from candidates who already hold or are enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent degree are not considered.

APAICS Congressional Fellowship

The APAICS Congressional Fellowship is designed for young AAPI professionals looking to increase their experience in public policy and service. The full-time, paid, 9-month program, places fellows across House and Senate offices, committees, and leadership offices. 




Fellows must have completed their undergraduate degree or have at least five years of public service experience prior to the program start date. They must be US citizens, lawful permanent residents, DACA with an Employment Authorization Document, or individuals who are legally authorized to work full-time without restriction for any US employer and who possess lawful evidence of employment authorization.

FSOC Junior Fellowship at US Treasury

 The Secretariat is pleased to announce the inaugural Financial Stability Oversight Council Junior Fellowship.  Targeted to recent graduates of four-year degree programs or current seniors, we believe this fellowship will provide new grads with unique professional development opportunities in the field of financial stability.  Details of the application process can be found on the FSOC Junior Fellowship site.   

 
Description
The FSOC Junior Fellowship is a selective, fixed two-year program for new college graduates to work at the Office of the Financial Stability Oversight Council to monitor and maintain United States financial stability.  Junior Fellows have exposure to multiple policy issues and opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills.  They typically perform a variety of tasks that include analyzing domestic economic and financial developments and financial stability risks, examining financial market data, and developing policy recommendations. Junior Fellows also support meetings of the Council and its various committees, which will include engagement with senior officials at Treasury and the various FSOC member agencies.

Attention recent and soon to be graduates: The Montgomery County Council is seeking a Legislative Senior Aide to support Councilmember Albornoz’s office.

The duties include maintaining Councilmember Albornoz’s calendar; researching and responding to inquiries from constituents, citizen’s groups, and County government officials and business organizations; assuring quality, completeness, and timeliness of correspondence and reports; using and maintaining databases.


Additional responsibilities may include working with social media platforms, meeting platforms, and media formats.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment, patience, confidentiality, and discretion in responding to telephone callers and visitors, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, respond to changing work priorities and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

Bilingual applicants in the Spanish/English languages are encouraged to apply. If the candidate selected for this position possesses multilingual skills, they will be required to successfully pass an examination assessing oral communication and comprehension (basic). For Advanced proficiency, the candidate must also pass an examination assessing written and oral communication and comprehension.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in legislative/policy research or communications and/or professional level experience in a subject area relevant to local government administration.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on the eligible list with a rating of qualified. Selection for interview will be based on the following criterion:
  • Experience prioritizing schedule requests and managing an office calendar.
  • Experience in setting priorities and organizing work assignments within deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience with direct public contact in a busy setting dealing with diverse types of people.
  • Experience in working effectively with constituents, community groups, and elected and appointed officials.
Minimum Salary: $50,250
Maximum Salary: $81,770

The Tulane Journal of Policy and Political Economy is Accepting Article Submissions!

The Tulane Journal of Policy and Political Economy is currently accepting article submissions for their next edition. They are looking for written materials from seniors in the GVPT department or have recently completed an honors thesis. The deadline for submissions is September 31, at 11:59pm CST. 


In short, the Tulane Journal is an internationally-recognized undergraduate publication focusing on original student research in politics, economics, and public health. Submitted articles are reviewed by a 50-person faculty-review panel, and those that are accepted are published in print and online. Previous editions have received submissions from universities across four continents and are indexed in the Library of Congress.


The Journal is officially partnered with the Tulane Departments of Political Science and Economics, the Tulane Murphy Institute, the Tulane School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine, and the Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) Societies of the University of Oxford and the London School of Economics.

South Asia Junior Fellowship Program

 South Asia Program Junior Fellowship 

The Henry L. Stimson Center’s South Asia Program welcomes applications from highly motivated graduating seniors or individuals who have completed their undergraduate or master’s degree in the past year for its 2021-2022 cohort of Junior Fellows. 

  

Purpose 

The one-year, full-time fellowship will provide individuals with a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge of security issues in the subcontinent, engage the South Asia policy community in Washington and the region, and experience working at a dynamic think tank that provides close interaction with senior staff and researchers. Junior Fellows will receive a salary of $37,000 for the full year as well as health insurance and transit benefits for the duration of the fellowship. 


Junior Fellows will support the Stimson South Asia Program’s efforts to research, analyze, and inform policymakers about the evolving dynamics of deterrence, conflict risks, military modernization, and great-power competition in Southern Asia. Fellows will be expected to support research, publications, and programmatic efforts (including South Asian Voices,Strategic Learning, and public events and workshops). They will receive professional development opportunities to engage with leading scholars and practitioners in the field, to represent Stimson at scholarly and policy convenings, to hone technical and analytical skills, and to conduct, present, and publish their own research. 


The Stimson South Asia Junior Fellowship will help emerging analysts develop the research, analytical, writing, and project management skills required to succeed in fields related to peace and security in South Asia.  

 

Selection Criteria  

Requirements 

  • A strong background in: South Asian politics, economics, or security; strategic studies and nuclear issues; international relations theory; or other social sciences. 
  • Demonstrated analytical, research, and writing skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate with peers in a team environment. 
  • A record of academic excellence. 
  • Bachelor’s degree. All applicants must be eligible to work in the United States for the full twelve months of the fellowship following graduation. 

 

Desirable Skills/Experience 

  • Precise editing skills (work experience in university writing center or newspaper a plus). 
  • Experience living/working in South Asia and/or working in intercultural settings. 
  • Hindi, Urdu, or Mandarin (or other relevant) language skills. 
  • Data science skills. 
  • Event and/or project management experience. 
  • Web management experience/skills. 

 

 

Application Materials 

  • A one-page cover letter laying out the candidate’s research interests and career goals. Applicants should discuss how they can contribute to the mission and work of the Stimson South Asia Program and how the Stimson South Asia Junior Fellowship would contribute to their long-term professional growth. 
  • A two-page maximum curriculum vitae or resume including all educational qualifications, study abroad experience, and extracurricular activities, as well as any work experience to date.
  • Unofficial transcript(s) with academic record of undergraduate and Master’s (if applicable) coursework and study abroad experience.
  • One letter of recommendation from a professor or former employer explaining what qualifications, skills, and experiences make the candidate a good fit for the fellowship; 
  • A writing sample of no more than two pages on a topic related to South Asian political or security issues. 

  

Letters of recommendation should be emailed to southasiaadmin@stimson.org with the subject line “Stimson South Asia Junior Fellowship—Last name of applicant.” All other application materials should be submitted as PDF documents through Stimson’s online application system.  

  

Selection Process 

Completed applications are due February 15, 2021. Interviews will be conducted soon after, and final decisions will be communicated in March. Applicants selected for interview may be required to complete one or more short research, editing, and/or writing assignments as part of the evaluation process. The fellowship will begin in August 2021 (start date flexible) and continue for 12 months.

USAID Payne Fellowship Program

The Donald M. Payne International Development Fellowship Program provides financial support through two years of graduate study, internships, mentoring, and professional development activities leading to an appointment in the USAID Foreign Service. 


IMPORTANT: The Payne programs seek applications from students/alumni who are US citizens with demonstrated financial need, especially those who are members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service. The program is particularly interested in reaching students in STEM fields--engineering, public health, natural sciences, etc.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be seeking admission to enter graduate school in the fall of 2021 for a two-year program at a U.S. university in an area of relevance to the USAID Foreign Service. They can be in their senior year of their undergraduate studies, graduating by June 2021, or they can be college graduates.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens.


Service Requirement: Recipients are obligated to complete a minimum five-year term of service as a Foreign Service officer.

Call & Response: Black Obama Administration Appointees Mentoring Black College Seniors in Government and Politics

I’m excited to be part of this awesome new initiative, Call + Response, a program for Black/African-American students graduating college this year (2020) with an Associate's or Bachelor's in political science, government affairs, international relations or other related majors. 
Over 100 Black Obama administration appointees will be paired with a student for a virtual lightning mentoring session centered around professional and personal concerns like launching their professional careers in the midst of a global pandemic.

Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection Looking For a Director’s Financial Analyst

ABOUT THE PROGRAM 
This unique, two-year rotational fellowship sits at the intersection of the federal government and the financial services industry. Director’s Financial Analysts are given the opportunity to hone analytical and problem solving skills while helping to make markets for consumer financial products work for Americans. Members of the Director’s Financial Analyst Program will experience diverse roles, responsibilities, and areas of expertise. As a result, in a short period of time, analysts will play an integral role in everything the Bureau does, from rigorous data-driven policy creation and market monitoring to on-site supervision of market participants.
All analysts will complete developmental rotations in offices throughout the Bureau. These rotations are designed to provide exposure to the analysis, strategy, research, education, policy development, supervision, enforcement, and rulemaking activities throughout the Bureau.
We are recruiting for positions that begin after the 2018-2019 academic year.

Previous Director’s Financial Analysts have used the program as a springboard to further their careers. Some graduates of the program have moved on to:

  • Grad school (e.g., Yale, MIT, Columbia, Harvard)
  • Private industry (e.g., Amazon, Uber, Wells Fargo, PayPal)
  • Public sector (e.g., Department of the Treasury, NY Fed, local government)
