Job Opportunity with the Montgomery County Council

Attention recent and soon to be graduates: The Montgomery County Council is seeking a Legislative Senior Aide to support Councilmember Albornoz’s office.

The duties include maintaining Councilmember Albornoz’s calendar; researching and responding to inquiries from constituents, citizen’s groups, and County government officials and business organizations; assuring quality, completeness, and timeliness of correspondence and reports; using and maintaining databases.


Additional responsibilities may include working with social media platforms, meeting platforms, and media formats.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment, patience, confidentiality, and discretion in responding to telephone callers and visitors, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, respond to changing work priorities and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

Bilingual applicants in the Spanish/English languages are encouraged to apply. If the candidate selected for this position possesses multilingual skills, they will be required to successfully pass an examination assessing oral communication and comprehension (basic). For Advanced proficiency, the candidate must also pass an examination assessing written and oral communication and comprehension.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in legislative/policy research or communications and/or professional level experience in a subject area relevant to local government administration.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on the eligible list with a rating of qualified. Selection for interview will be based on the following criterion:
  • Experience prioritizing schedule requests and managing an office calendar.
  • Experience in setting priorities and organizing work assignments within deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience with direct public contact in a busy setting dealing with diverse types of people.
  • Experience in working effectively with constituents, community groups, and elected and appointed officials.
Minimum Salary: $50,250
Maximum Salary: $81,770
