Spring 2013 Elective Option studying Shakespeare!

The Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies is offering a course in the Spring called "Shakespearean Actors and Actresses". Below is a description:

This course examines the history of the Shakespearean actor from the Renaissance to the present. In addition to looking at the biographies and impact of particular actors throughout the history of Shakespeare on stage, the class will also contextualize the lives and accomplishments of these figures by exploring the theatrical climate of their time and location, often using primary sources to reinforce this information. Through the lens of the performer, we can begin to understand the developments of both Western theatre and the image of Shakespeare as the first and most lasting iconic English playwright.

This class will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about Shakespeare, as well as the development of Western theatre. The second half of the semester will focus on modern Shakespearean actors, such as Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Patrick Stewart, and even younger actors who are having an impact on Shakespearean theatre, such as Jude Law and David Tennant.

Course Info:

THET399Q Independent Study: Shakespearean Actors and Actresses; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD.
0101 MW........12:00pm- 1:15pm (PAC 1815)

State Department Pathways Internship Program

The Bureau of Human Resources, Office of Shared Services (HR/SS) is pleased to announce that Pathways Internship recruiting is underway!

The Department’s Pathways Internship Program has two components to allow for flexible recruitment:  the Internship Experience Program (IEP) and the Internship Temporary Experience Program (ITEP).  These two programs replace all former paid internships (Student Temporary Employment Program, Student Career Experience Program, Cooperative Education Program, DG Priority Program, Stay-in-School Program, and the Summer Clerical Program).

The Internship Experience Program (IEP) allows for non-temporary appointments without a not-to-exceed date.  The appointment is expected to last the length of the academic program for which the intern is enrolled, with the ability to extend for 120 days to allow for noncompetitive conversion into the competitive service.  IEP participants, while in the program, are eligible for noncompetitive promotions.

IEP Office Automation (GS-399, Grades 1–4) Announcement:  click here.

The Internship Temporary Experience Program (ITEP) places interns on temporary appointments not to exceed one year, with the possibility of extensions in one-year increments.  The temporary nature of ITEP allows for interns to work during seasonal and holiday breaks in academic programs. After successful program completion, ITEP participants are eligible for noncompetitive conversions into the competitive service (just like IEPs).  ITEP participants; however, are ineligible for noncompetitive promotions.  If an ITEP participant is qualified at a higher grade level, he/she must compete for the position via a USAJOBS vacancy announcement.

ITEP Office Automation (GS-399, Grades 1–4) Announcement:  click here.

Per OPM public notification requirements, all Pathways Program opportunities must be made available to the public via USAJOBS. Veteran’s preference applies.

Subsequent announcements will be posted in the coming months to fill positions in other areas such as Human Resources, Foreign Affairs, Information Technology, and Program Analysis.

After HR/SS verifies each applicant’s eligibility, a certificate of eligible candidates will be sent to Pathways Bureau Coordinators to share with hiring managers for interviews and selections.  HR/SS will receive selections from bureaus and make all tentative job offers.  Selections must be made timely to ensure security investigations can be initiated.

For questions regarding the Pathways Internship Program, please contact HRSC@state.gov.
