Apply to be an Alternative Breaks Experience Leader

UMD's Alternative Breaks program is looking for students passionate about service & social justice to lead groups of their peers on transformative community service-learning experiences this upcoming year, which will take place over Winter, Spring, and Summer Breaks! 

Benefits include: 

  • Developing leadership skills like facilitation/presentation, trip planning, & communication,
  • Building strong relationships with your co-leader, fellow students, and staff advisor,
  • Expanding your understanding of a variety of social issues & what meaningful service looks like, and finally
  • Traveling somewhere new!
AB Experience Leaders will receive a partial to full scholarship covering the cost of their AB Experience, as a result of completing all EL requirements.

NAFSA RISE Fellowship Program

The NAFSA Representation, Inclusion, Support and Empowerment (RISE) Fellowship works to advance representation of international education professionals from underrepresented minority backgrounds and lead the empowerment of participants with resources and tools to help them give back to their institutions and communities and the field of international education at large. 

NAFSA welcomes applications from new professionals in the field of international education international education professionals who identify with one or more underrepresented backgrounds and will commit to the two year program.

Future Trade Leaders Fellowship Program

The CT Strategies Future Trade Leaders Fellowship supports the professional development of the next generation of women in international trade. Fellows receive funding for undergraduate studies ($8,000 awarded for one academic school year), mentorship, and a paid summer internship at CT Strategies

Applicants must identify as female, be a rising junior or senior currently enrolled at an accredited university or college, have a demonstrated financial need, be studying international trade, economics,  supply chain/logistics, homeland security, marketing, or a related field, and submit both a one-page resume and essay.

Remote Fall Communications Internship with HECFAA

The Hispanic and Latin Employee Council of Foreign Affairs Agencies Council seeks three remote Fall interns to develop and implement a marketing strategy for community outreach; design and maintain marketing tools for external communication; create eye-catching visual and written products to facilitate internal communication; maintain an external website and improving website with graphics and updated information; manage digital media accounts.

Spiros Consulting Fall 2023 Internship

Spiros Consulting is a national Democratic opposition research firm looking for interns for the Fall 2023 term. They are looking for candidates who are at least in their sophomore year, have a strong understanding of national politics, and are interested in campaigns. 

This is a paid internship with a $2,000 stipend for the semester and candidates should be able to work 15-20 hours a week. The internship time frame will be from the first week of September to early December. The internship will be fully remote, with the possibility for local interns to come into the office on certain occasions, but interns are not expected or obligated to relocate.

Rangel Fellowship Program

The Charles B. Rangel Fellowship is a US Department of State program created to attract diverse talent to the US Foreign Service. The program encourages the application of members of groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need. 

Selected fellows receive support for graduate school, internships, and professional development. Applicants must be US Citizens, college seniors or graduates, and be seeking entry into graduate school in fall 2023. They can come from any academic discipline. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.

Fall 2023 Google Policy Fellowship

The Google Public Policy Fellowship program offers students interested in technology policy the opportunity to spend a semester working on these issues at public interest organizations in DC.

 Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to Internet and technology policy, an excellent academic record, professional/extracurricular/volunteer activities, analytical, communications, research, and writing skills, an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently, and to work smartly and resourcefully in a fast-paced environment. Open to all majors. Fellows receive a stipend of $12,000

Remote Internships Across the US Government with VSFS

The Virtual Student Federal Service connects the talents of US-citizen college students with the needs of 20+ federal agencies worldwide through remote internships. There are opportunities for all majors and backgrounds. Internships are unpaid, but may be eligible for course credit. 

U.S. citizen high school graduates, from rising college freshmen through Ph.D. students, who are enrolled at least half-time (as defined by the school) in college during their application and participation are eligible. Because the program is virtual, students can intern from anywhere. Because the program is virtual, students can intern from anywhere. The time commitment is ~10 hours per week during the school year.

National Security Careers in the Private Sector Event

The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) is hosting an in-person Make Room Initiative study session event titled "National Security Careers in the Private Sector." The conversation will focus on the intersection of national security and the private sector, how the private sector helps influence and support U.S. foreign policy and discuss some of the national security-focused jobs in the private sector.  

A key part of the CNAS mission is to inform and prepare the national security leaders of today and tomorrow. Subsequently, Make Room is an inclusive professional development network where early career professionals are equipped to pursue their goals and develop their leadership skills. The study series holds interactive study sessions that focus on functional skill development and substantive learning. Study sessions speakers are diverse, early- to senior- career professionals who can readily relate to the Make Room community and provide actionable advice.

Study Abroad & Earn GVPT Upper Level Credit

This year, eligible GVPT students have the opportunity to earn GVPT upper-level credit and travel to Cuba during the Winter Term. Students will take a two-credit course in the fall and a one-credit course in Havana, Cuba during the winter semester.
