Internships

A Congressional internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience, and observe first-hand how our government operates. I welcome and encourage all that are interested in either full or part-time internships in my Washington, D.C. or District offices to submit their resumes. Interns gain practical work experience by undertaking a variety of administrative and legislative responsibilities in the office.

Interns in the Washington office draft constituent correspondence, attend briefings and Congressional hearings, and prepare memoranda for me and members of my staff. Interns in the District offices conduct research, assist with constituent casework and draft correspondence. Interns in both offices maintain large responsibility for answering phones, data entry and general office systems operations. Interns are an important part of my staff.

Internships are available expressly for the purpose of furthering educational and professional objectives, therefore they are unpaid and usually awarded to undergraduate students and recent graduates.

Both my Washington and District Offices are currently accepting applications for next semester.
Priority is given to applicants from Pennsylvania's 13th Congressional District, although all interested persons are encouraged to apply. Selection is based on an applicant's general office and computer experience, as well as an interview.

Please apply no earlier than three months prior to your start date. Congresswoman Schwartz’s office will not review applications until that time.

Congressional Internship

The Office of Congressman Barney Frank seeks a full-time press intern to assist in a broad range of communications-related tasks. Duties including tracking broadcast radio and television stories, helping to set up press conferences, tracking press requests, maintaining the press calendar, drafting or copy-editing materials, transcribing and summarizing interview segments, conducting general or legislative research, updating the web site using a content management system, recording audio or video at events, processing video for upload to YouTube, and other tasks as needed.

The position requires strong writing and editing skills. General knowledge of the political process and national issues is essential. Additional familiarity with financial issues, economics, and LGBT issues is helpful.

Massachusetts experience is a plus.

This person will work closely with the Communications Director and Deputy Communications Director. A four to six-month commitment required.

This position will be excellent training for individuals wishing to pursue a career in political communications.

Internship Opportunity with Congressman Larry Kissell (D, NC-8th)

We are currently accepting applications for internship openings in Congressman Kissell’s fast-paced Washington, D.C. office during the upcoming SPRING term (approximately early January through late May, 2012). Internship duties include, but are not limited to:

Spring internship program with Senator Amy Klobuchar

The Washington office of Senator Amy Klobuchar is currently accepting internship applications for the 2012 spring session. An internship with the Senator’s office is a terrific chance for students to gain first-hand experience with both the legislative process and constituent services in the United States Senate.

Interns assist the office in a variety of legislative and administrative capacities.  Interns support legislative staff by conducting policy research, attending briefings, and preparing for hearings. They are also asked to give tours of the U.S. Capitol to constituents and assist with constituent correspondence by letter, email, and phone.  During your time in the office, you will learn your way around Capitol Hill and become familiar with the daily operations of a senate office.

The spring internship runs from January through May (though we are flexible with start and end dates) and is available both part time and full time. If you will be attending classes while you are here we ask that you note that on your internship application, as well as what days and times you are available to work. We are happy to coordinate with educational institutions and students to develop internships for academic credit.

Capitol Hill Internships

I am pleased to offer congressional internships to those seeking legislative experience on Capitol Hill. Internships provide a tremendous opportunity to learn about the legislative process and to become more familiar with how our government operates. Interns in my office will work closely with our legislative and press staff on a variety of issues. In addition to their work with the staff, interns will be asked to perform various administrative tasks that generally include, answering the office phones, opening and distributing mail, and responding to constituent correspondence. Every part of the internship is crucial to the day-to-day functioning of the office. Internships are available year round and for variable lengths of time. Preference is given to those students and individuals from Arizona's 7th Congressional District, though consideration is given to all qualified applicants. Internships are unpaid. Interns will be responsible for all lodging and transportation costs.

Description:
Interns will work in a fast-paced Congressional Office, gaining valuable experience and knowledge of the United States Congress. Unique opportunity to learn the particular role and responsibilities of the U.S. House Majority Leader in Congress. Interns will gain practical experience while assisting personal office staff, and have the opportunity to acquire a working knowledge of the day-to-day operations of the Legislative branch.  Intern responsibilities include greeting constituents, handling constituent phone calls, assisting staff with administrative tasks, conducting legislative research, and assisting with correspondence. Opportunities to attend Capitol Hill briefings, congressional hearings, receptions, and press events.  

Qualifications:
Interns must be sharp, have good inter-personal skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.  Successful interns will be able to find information with little assistance, be observant and self-aware, require minimal supervision, and be able to both work independently and coordinate with others as necessary.  Applicants should have working knowledge of current events and policy topics, as well as a willingness to do mundane tasks as needed, as well as have an interest in public service or government.  Strong attention to detail and instructions a must. Fifth district residency a plus.

National Clandestine Service (NCS) Internship Program

One of the four branches of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the National Clandestine Service (NCS) strengthens national security and foreign policy objectives through covert action and the clandestine collection of human intelligence.

The highly competitive National Clandestine Service (NCS) Internship Program gives a limited number of talented undergraduate students the opportunity to work in supporting the NCS mission of collecting human intelligence on critical international developments. Interns are required to work two 90-day summer internships or a combination of one summer and one semester internship prior to graduation from a four-year accredited American college or university.

Duties:
Through your involvement with the NCS Internship Program, you will:

U.S. Department of Justice Internship Opportunity

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) of the United States Department of Justice, Criminal Division, is seeking applications from energetic, organized, and detail-oriented first, second and third-year law students, undergraduate students, and graduate students to fill intern/extern openings. Unpaid positions are available during academic semesters and summers. Many interns/externs receive academic credit for their experience.

Who may apply?
Junior and Senior undergraduate Students, graduate students and first (second semester only), second and third-year law students are encouraged to apply. Undergraduates and graduate students with a strong writing background and an interest in international matters and criminal law may be particularly interested in these positions. Knowledge of a foreign language is desirable but not essential. United States citizenship is required. A background check and a drug test are part of the application process.

Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva
Congressman Grijalva is serving his 5th term in the US House of Representatives and regularly receives the top rating for the most progressive member of Congress.  He serves on the Committee on Education and Labor and Committee of Natural Resources, of which he is Ranking Member of the National Parks, Forests and Public Lands Subcommittee.

In addition, he plays several leadership roles throughout Congress: he serves as Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and was appointed Senior Whip for the Majority Whip’s Operation.

Congressman Grijalva has been an ongoing advocate for economic justice, the environment, civil liberties and universal health care.
