UNIV362: Designing Your Life After College!

Consider taking UNIV362: Designing Your Life After College!


Students with at least 60 credits are eligible to enroll in
UNIV362: Designing Your Life After College. This innovative course helps students plan their transition out of college and into early adulthood. Faculty and experts from around campus and the country come together to provide a hands-on learning experience. Students gain a grasp on important financial concepts such as budgeting, understanding the stock market, and managing a retirement account. The course faculty also coach students through career development, the steps to secure an apartment or mortgage, understanding benefit packages, and negotiating job offers.
Students are coached through developing a life plan that will help those who have no clear path after graduation and students who have a set vision for what they want to accomplish. We encourage any student interested in preparing for life after college to enroll in UNIV362.

BSOS288A: Nuerodiversity in the Workplace



Weds 4-5:15pm (Synchronous) 1 credit


*Neurodiversity (ND) refers to the perspective that differences in learning and thought can be leveraged to create value and enhance innovation. ND includes ADHD, mental health challenges, autism, OCD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, epilepsy, among others.

 Course Description

  • Learn what neurodiversity (ND) is and why it matters to consider ND in each part of career preparation and as professionals in the workplace.
  • Learn about the university resources available to ND college students to support a successful pathway through college and into a career.  
  • Hear from employers about the rising interest in hiring ND job candidates; why this trend is increasing; how these programs start and grow; and roles for neurotypical (NT) allies.
  • Your work in this class will lead to a career development plan and a list of potential internship or job opportunities.

Sign Up for IDEA258C: Designing Ethical Campaigns (1 Credit) Tuesday 3:30-5pm

Looking for 1 more credit? This is the perfect class for you! This student taught course will introduce students and immerse them in the methods of running an ethical campaign with an emphasis on the Academy's focus on design thinking and lean start up. Discover what you are passionate about and learn how to design a campaign around it in a way that can make tangible differences AND stay true to its core values. Questions? Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue Program

Spring 2020 courses for the Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue Program
are now posted and open for enrollment!

The Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue Program (WEIDP) is a for-credit social justice education initiative that brings together students of diverse backgrounds for facilitated face-to-face conversations that supports students in exploring key questions about who we are, what we know about each other, and how systems of power impact our lives and relationships. WEIDP prepares students to navigate an increasingly diverse society through relationship building across difference and taking steps, both individually and collectively, that promote equity and justice.

All WEIDP courses count towards the Gen Ed Cultural Competence Diversity Requirement. Students can register for a dialogue course directly on testudo. Each dialogue course consists of 2-3 themed sections and participants are placed in one of the sections of course they registered for.

Sign Up for IDEA258C: Designing Ethical Campaigns (1 Credit)



This student taught course will introduce students and immerse them in the methods of running an ethical campaign. Through our campus, local, state, and national government, we have seen how dirty politics can get. Throughout the semester students will be able to apply their learnings to design a campaign that can make tangible differences, but stay true to their core values. We will explore the different functions and methods it takes to run an ethical campaign. Our assignments and activities will allow for students to have hands on engagement with stakeholders at UMD to create and test their own ethical campaign.
