Her Bold Move Fellowship Application Deadline Extended to Jan 1st!

The Her Bold Move fellowship application deadline has been extended to January 1st, 2024!


As a reminder, Her Bold Move is a nonprofit organization that works to elect women into government positions across the country. We offer students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in political action, community organizing, fundraising, and campaigning with our Future Leaders Fellowship. We are looking for applicants from anywhere in the U.S. who are current sophomores, juniors, seniors, or post-grad in college, and passionate about electing progressive women to our government.


Her Bold Move is focused on creating a community of like-minded students that will be the leaders of tomorrow. The fellowship is focused on aiding students in developing key skills necessary for entering the world of politics as a woman. There will be opportunities for fellows to work on active campaigns for Her Bold Move candidates, gain experience in fundraising, research topics they’re passionate about, hone their leadership skills, and build a network of like-minded women.

Fellows can expect to:

  • Attend weekly Zoom sessions on Thursdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm ET.
  • Engage with guest speakers during weekly Q&A sessions and peers during weekly discussions.
  • Complete a creative fundraising project.
  • Conduct a short research project on a topic of your choice.
  • Learn how to phone bank through participating in virtual sessions with various campaigns.
Our Spring Fellowship will begin in February and run through the end of May.

Compass Advocacy 2024 Session Internship

Compass Government Relations Partners is a lobbying and advocacy firm in downtown Annapolis. We represent clients before all levels of government, specializing in Maryland and Delaware. Our team tackles a wide range of issues including renewable energy, education, tax policy, health care, and the state budget.


 Scope of Work:
- Research legislation and relevant topics
- Hearing coverage
- Monitor floor sessions
- Testimony submission
- Schedule meetings between lobbyists, clients, and legislators
- Basic clerical duties including answering phones, maintaining spreadsheets, etc.
- Invitation/one-pager distributions to General Assembly offices
- Greet and provide hospitality to clients and visitors

Compensation: Interns will receive a bi-weekly stipend as well as a completion bonus.

Paid Fall Internship with NVG (deadline 4pm Aug 16)

Government public relations firm NVG is seeking an intern who is enthusiastic and energetic about learning the operations of a fast-paced lobbying firm. Applicants must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, demonstrate a willingness to learn, and possess good writing and communication skills. NVG places an emphasis on issues relating to health care, immigration, and education. Applicants who have an expressed interest in one or more of those issue areas will be given preference, but all are encouraged to apply.  
 
NVG is committed to providing an educational experience for all participants. The intern will be under the direct supervision of the Intern Coordinator. Although intern responsibilities will include some clerical work, interns will gain substantive experience under the direct supervision of a staff member.  
 
These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • attending committee hearings, policy briefings, or academic forums as needed and taking detailed notes 
  • assisting with administrative and clerical duties  
  • conducting legislative research 
  • assisting with targeted outreach efforts for NVG sponsored briefings or fundraisers 
  • creating data charts or PowerPoint presentations relating to policy areas 
  • compiling and distributing daily news clips for staff 
  • assisting with a variety of other tasks and projects as needed or as interest indicates

Local Campaign Paid Internship Opportunity



2022 MARC ELRICH PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Program Description 

The Marc Elrich for County Executive campaign is seeking interns interested in learning about the inner workings of a grassroots campaign through our unique PAID internship program. Interns will learn about and perform various everyday responsibilities of successful campaigns, including voter contact, volunteer recruitment and management, event staffing, data management, political planning, communications, and campaign research. They will also receive training on how to construct a field program and will have opportunities to take on increased responsibility as the campaign progresses. The program will also include an educational component in which experts will speak with interns about various policy and political topics. Interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis and the internship will run through June 30, 2022 with the possibility to extend into the Fall.

Expectations and Compensation Time Commitment: 

Paid interns will be expected to work 10-25 hours per week depending on interest and availability (details will be finalized after a group of interns is selected). 

Compensation: Interns will start at $16 per hour. Benefits are not included. Successful campaigns are disciplined and accountable, and all participants will be expected to behave professionally throughout this program. Interns are expected to show up to shifts on time and with a positive attitude and to be focused on assigned campaign priorities during their shifts. Interns will also be expected to attend weekly staff meetings, and a willingness to work on weekends is required. Access to a vehicle is a plus but not a requirement (campaign headquarters are located in Rockville near the Twinbrook Metro Station). Paid interns will be expected to sign confidentiality and non-compete form; work for other campaigns through 2022 will require written consent of the campaign. Paid interns are not expected to volunteer for additional hours when their assigned paid hours are complete.

Future Leaders in Public Service Internship Program

 The Partnership for Public Service recently launched the Future Leaders in Public Service internship program. The program is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to explore a career in public service while gaining valuable work experience.

Program Highlights 

  • Students receive a $4,000 stipend and a 10-12 week summer internship
  • The placement sites are at the Department of Commerce and Department of Transportation
  • Professional development workshops will supplement the internship experience
  • Students from any academic background or major are welcome to apply

Paid Undergraduate Spring and Summer Internships at Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. They work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. The Brennan Center’s work ranges from voting rights to campaign finance reform, from ending mass incarceration to preserving Constitutional protections in the fight against terrorism. Part think tank, part advocacy group, part cutting edge communications hub, they start with rigorous research, craft innovative policies, and we fight for them – in Congress and the states, in the courts, and in the court of public opinion.

Sustainable Micro-Internships Available, Dec & Jan

 UMD is working with Universitas 21 (U21) to offer a free online, international micro-internship opportunity for students around the world in December 2021 and/or January 2022. 

 

These two week micro-internships are thematically aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations.

 

3-17 December 2021 - SDG focus: Quality Education 

 

7-21 January 2022 SDG focus: Gender Equity

 

14-28 January 2022 SDG focus: Climate Action

 

Over the two-week program you will be presented with an ongoing sustainability challenge from your host employer and work in groups (spanning 18 counties and 19 time zones) to innovate a solution and how to communicate this with senior stakeholders. The internships involve two 2.5 hour live online sessions at the start and end of the two-week program, with the rest of the project work undertaken flexibly, online around your other commitments.

 

This unique experience is open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Public Citizen- Internship on Voting Rights

Democracy in the United States is under systematic attack – big money raised in secret undermines the voice of the people in our elections, voting rights are being undermined and the security of our elections is threatened. Join the Democracy Is For People team in mobilizing the power of the people to combat these threat and defend our democracy.


The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that corporations have a constitutional right to spend unlimited amounts of money to promote or defeat candidates for office.
Public Citizen has played a lead role in the effort to overturn Citizens United and is working on solutions to the problem of big money in politics locally too. We are looking for a few amazing interns to join us at ~20 hours per week during the spring and fall, and 20-40 hours a week during the summer.


You’ve heard that corporations have lobbyists. At Public Citizen, we’re the people’s lobbyists, representing the public in the halls of power. We fight for public health and safety, champion corporate and government accountability, and campaign for fair trade, clean energy, and consumer rights.


The Democracy Is For People Campaign has senior staff in our Washington, D.C.  and Syracuse, New York offices.


Responsibilities:

You’ll be working closely with our campaign organizers to build the campaign and help make it happen. Your work could include:

  • working with activists around the country, including locally and in key states, to get them involved in strategic campaigns;
  • develop issues and/or organizing expertise through dedicated assignments;
  • conduct social media and online outreach to build campaign visibility and assisting with press outreach and events;
  • reach out to potential partner organizations and officials to gain their endorsement and support;
  • research and write on current topics regarding money in politics and election security.

This is your chance to truly play an active role in making an impact in our nation’s history.

Public Citizen offers unpaid internships (credit can be arranged) and a small number of paid internships ($15.20 an hour).

Congressional Internship Opportunity

Internships 

Capitol Hill internships provide valuable opportunities for college students and new graduates to experience our nation's legislative process firsthand. The majority of current Hill staffers, from chiefs of staff to legislative assistants, started off as personal office and committee interns. 

Representative Mark Amodei (NV-02) offers the opportunity for college students and recent graduates to participate in internships in his Washington, D.C. office. Successful candidates must have excellent organizational, personal, writing and communication skills. Nevada ties are a plus but are not required. Special consideration will be given to applicants from Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District or students attending institutions of higher education in Nevada. 


Internships can be a great opportunity to learn the legislative process, experience life in Washington, D.C., and see how your government works. Responsibilities include answering phones, providing constituents tours of the U.S. Capitol, legislative research, assisting the communications director, and aiding staff for special projects as needed. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend committee hearings, briefings, and staff meetings. This rewarding experience offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to learn about and contribute to the day-to-day operations of a Congressional office. Furthermore, full-time interns have the opportunity to receive a monthly stipend. 


Internships are offered three times per year. We offer a rolling application, meaning we continually accept applications for the following semesters:

 The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Response to Terrorism (START), based here at the University of Maryland, is now accepting applications for the Summer 2021 Internship Program!

Internships with Rumi Forum

This Fall the Rumi Forum is offering two internship opportunities for undergraduates, graduate students, or recent graduates. Current available positions include: 

Research Internships

The research intern will assist with preparation of our publications that include topics such as peace, conflict resolution, community cohesion, multiculturalism, pluralism, social justice, and interfaith issues. 

Duties may include the following: 
  • Write, revise, and edit reports, blog posts, thought pieces, social media content, etc.
  • Assist in communications, public relations, marketing, and business development 
  • Edit speeches and interviews, and prepare news updates for the website 
  • Follow events in Washington DC related to the field of Rumi Forum
  • Prepare and edit press releases 
  • Other projects as assigned

Project Internships 

The responsibility of these interns will be centered around general projects of the Rumi Forum, most of which include event planning and organization of our various conferences, seminars, international trips, evening events, community events, and social responsibility projects.

Requirements: 
Applicant must be pursuing (or have recently graduated with) an undergraduate degree in International Relations, Public Policy, Political Science,  Sociology, Journalism, Communications, or other related fields.

Duties may include the following:
  • Reach prominent government, corporate and media officials, opinion-makers, academics, diplomats, clergy and other civic leaders for event collaboration opportunities 
  • Email marketing
  • Promote events by developing and executing a social media strategy
  • Maintaining contact database
  • Conduct site selection research
  • Work with the photographer and the cameraman

Immediate Internship Opportunity: Campaign Interns

The Republican Party of Pennsylvania is seeking students interns to work on upcoming campaigns such as: Brian Fitzpatrick for Congress, Lou Barletta for Senate, Scott Wagner for Governor. Interns can expect to play an integral role relating to grassroots functions. Interns will be exposed to the interworkings of political campaigns, and the importance of community organizing. Interns will work phone banks as well as conduct voter contact in the form of canvassing. They will work hand-in-hand with several individual campaigns, staff political events, petitioning, and conduct voter registration.
