Tobin Center Pre-Doctoral Fellows Program at Yale

The Tobin Center for Economic Policy is accepting applications for its newly expanded predoctoral fellowship program in Political Science at Yale University. This program is targeted at recent college graduates who are considering a PhD in political science but either aren’t sure about it or would benefit from the opportunity to take classes and work with faculty before applying.

The Tobin Center/Economics Pre-Doctoral Fellows Program is a vibrant and diverse community of approximately 60 scholars from around the world. Pre-Doctoral Fellows work for one to two years as full-time research assistants for one or more faculty mentors and engage in additional education and training activities, including taking for credit or auditing one course per semester, participating in a weekly professional development seminar, and attending departmental research seminars. All positions are based on campus, with competitive salaries and standard benefits such as health insurance, and fellows work in common workspaces to foster camaraderie and peer learning.

Summer Internship with Senator Bob Casey

Applications are now open for internships with Senator Bob Casey's Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania offices for Summer 2024. The application closes on February 25^th. Internships are paid $16/hour and intended to be full time for each six-week session. Undergraduate students, especially those with ties to Pennsylvania, are encouraged to apply.

Interns receive a firsthand look at how policy is formed and implemented as well as how Senate offices assist and connect with constituents. These experiences are a great introduction to public service and the work of the United States Senate.

Terrapin Leadership Institute Registration Open Now

 The Terrapin Leadership Institute (TLI) is a five week-long student-led leadership development program tasked to guide students across campus—through hands-on activities and critical dialogue—in discovering who they are as leaders and becoming confident with tangible leadership skills and strategies that can be applied to their everyday lives. The workshop is a low-commitment, high intensity series that is meant to accommodate the student's busy schedule. There is no cost to participate in TLI! Exploring Black Leadership at the NMAAHC

As a part of Black History Month, the MLEAD Program will charter a trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture on February 23, 2024. Participants will examine how Black figures throughout history made collaborative efforts for collective impact, healing, and liberation. Through guided self-reflection and dialogue, students will have the opportunity to consider their leadership practice and strategies for committing to conscious action and living and leading with integrity. Transportation and meals will be provided for students.

APAN Info Session 2/20

 APAN is a Master of Science degree in Applied Political Analytics, with primary elements of political science and quantitative analysis, for those who want to work with data in an applied political setting, such as Congress, a Cabinet Department, non-profit organizations, or campaigns, to name a few. Our tracks of study include a 4+1 option for current UMD undergrads, who can earn the MS degree in just one additional year of study, at a lower overall cost.

The information session will include an overview of the program and Q&A with APAN Director, Dr. Candace Turitto. The session will be on zoom on Tuesday, February 20th from 5-6pm.

Pi Sigma Alpha Journal Undergraduate Papers

 The Pi Sigma Alpha Journal welcomes submissions from undergraduates of any class or major. You do not need to be a Pi Sigma Alpha member to submit. 

Original content should explore questions related to American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, public law and policy, racial and ethnic politics, the politics of gender and sexuality, and qualitative and quantitative research methods. 

Submitted manuscripts must include a short abstract (roughly 150 words), and citations and references should follow the APSA Style Manual for Political Science. The maximum page length for submitted manuscripts is 35 double-spaced pages (including everything – main body text, references, tables, figures, charts, and appendices).

Paid Internships at Sasakawa USA

Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA (Sasakawa USA) is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to deepening the understanding of and strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and Japan for the benefit of a free and open international community. 

They offer paid internships during the fall, winter/spring, and summer semesters. Internships are available to current students or recent graduates. Strong candidates typically are recent graduates with a focus on International Relations, Security and Diplomacy, Japanese Studies, or a related field. Japanese language ability is preferred, but not required. Interns must be authorized to work in the US or be sponsored by independent agencies.
