Boren Scholarship for Critical Language Study / US Government Service

 Are you currently studying, or strongly interested in studying a language critical to US national interests? Are you strongly interested in US government service?


The Boren Scholarship offers undergraduates up to $25,000 for long-term (two semesters; one for STEM majors) study abroad focused on learning critical languages. US Citizenship is required, All classes including seniors are eligible. Campus deadline: January 24, 2024.

Eligible regions include Africa, South Asia, East and Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and former Soviet Republics, Latin America (esp. for Portuguese), and the Middle East. (Boren Scholarships MAY NOT be used for study in Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.) Boren Scholarships may be used for study abroad in Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Spring 2024. In addition to the option of selecting your own study abroad program in these regions, you can also apply for one of the Boren programs Flagship Language Initiative sites:


African Flagship Languages Initiative (AFLI) - Offers the opportunity for intensive language study through domestic and overseas language programs in French, Swahili, Akan/Twi, Wolof, or Zulu. 

South Asian Flagship Languages Initiative (SAFLI) - Offers the opportunity for intensive study of either Hindi or Urdu through a combination of domestic and overseas programs. 

Southeast Asian Flagship Languages Initiative (SEAFLI) - Offers the opportunity for intensive study of either Indonesian, Thai, or Vietnamese through a combination of domestic and overseas programs. 

Turkish Flagship Language Initiative (TURFLI) - Offers the opportunity for intensive study of the Turkish language through a combination of domestic and overseas programs.


*The Boren Scholarship is a U.S. Government-funded award that seeks applicants who have a strong interest in future Government service; the award carries a one-year service expectation.*

Pre-Law Advising - Law School Interviews 2023

 The Pre-Law Advising Office’s annual Law School Interview Program is throughout the week of December 4th - 8th, 2023 with admissions personnel from some of our local and more popular feeder schools. Current students and alumni who are applying to law school for Fall 2024 matriculation should feel free to register for an interview with any of the visiting schools that they are genuinely interested in!

Her Bold Move Fellowship Application Deadline Extended to Jan 1st!

The Her Bold Move fellowship application deadline has been extended to January 1st, 2024!


As a reminder, Her Bold Move is a nonprofit organization that works to elect women into government positions across the country. We offer students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in political action, community organizing, fundraising, and campaigning with our Future Leaders Fellowship. We are looking for applicants from anywhere in the U.S. who are current sophomores, juniors, seniors, or post-grad in college, and passionate about electing progressive women to our government.


Her Bold Move is focused on creating a community of like-minded students that will be the leaders of tomorrow. The fellowship is focused on aiding students in developing key skills necessary for entering the world of politics as a woman. There will be opportunities for fellows to work on active campaigns for Her Bold Move candidates, gain experience in fundraising, research topics they’re passionate about, hone their leadership skills, and build a network of like-minded women.

Fellows can expect to:

  • Attend weekly Zoom sessions on Thursdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm ET.
  • Engage with guest speakers during weekly Q&A sessions and peers during weekly discussions.
  • Complete a creative fundraising project.
  • Conduct a short research project on a topic of your choice.
  • Learn how to phone bank through participating in virtual sessions with various campaigns.
Our Spring Fellowship will begin in February and run through the end of May.
