Paid Internship with MD Delegate Ariana Kelly's Office

Delegate Ariana Kelly represents district 16 of Montgomery County, which includes Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Glen Echo, Somerset and parts of Rockville and Potomac. Interns must be available for the legislative session from January through April. Interns must be able to work in the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis at least twice a week, three days is ideal. The busiest days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with few or no committee hearings scheduled for Mondays or Fridays.  Undergraduate, graduate, or recent grads are welcome to apply. Political Science, Government, Public Policy, Law, Women’s Studies or similar concentrations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities include:
·  Conducting research on bills, constituent issues, & potential stakeholders
·  Helping to read and draft/edit legislation
·  Reaching out to legislators for co-sponsorship opportunities
·  Attending committee hearings and stakeholder meetings
·  Meeting with constituents, lobbyists, or other advocates
·  Drafting correspondence (letters, emails, or eblasts) to constituents
·  Writing, preparing, and organizing Delegate and witness testimony for bill hearings
·  Organizing and keeping track of bill status
·  ​Providing general support to Delegate Kelly and her staff

Qualifications include excellent research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to manage multiple tasks, take initiative, and the ability to work independently.

Each intern is awarded a stipend to help defray the costs of participating in the program. The total session stipend varies, depending on the number of days per week the intern works in Annapolis. To be eligible for the program, a student must be able to work a minimum of two full days each week of session.
·         $850 per session = 2 days per week
·         $1,250 per session = 3 days per week
·         $1,650 per session = 4 days per week
·         $2,000 per session = 5 days per week
