Delegate Elect Alston Internship: Legislative Intern


Delegate-elect Tiffany Alston is looking to hire multiple legislative interns. 

 Maryland House of Delegates2023 Legislative Internship

A Maryland Delegate is seeking multiple Legislative Interns to assist with daily operation of their Annapolis office during the Legislative session. This internship will allow for a hands-on experience with local and state legislative process with flexible scheduling. The Legislative Session begins on January 11, 2023 and ends on April 10, 2023. Interns will be required to work 2-3 days a week. All work will take place at the Annapolis office. Interns will receive a stipend depending on the number of days worked. The first half of the stipend will be paid in the middle of the session and the second half will be paid at the end of the session.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program

• Strong interest in the legislative process and state and local politics

• Strong communication and writing skills

• Excellent attention to detail

• Strong research and computer skills (MS Office, etc.) project management skills a plus

• Ability to effectively communicate with all co-workers, and external parties and handle confidential matters

• Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task

• Ability to problem solve and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to work in a team setting and can work independently when projects are due


Responsibilities

• Take notes on Committee meetings and report to the Chief of Staff and the Delegate

• Conduct research on various policy topics including but not limited to healthcare, economic justice, criminal justice, etc.

• Assist with constituent services by communicating with citizens via phone and/or email

• Track important issues throughout the Legislative Session to keep the Delegate informed

• Perform other assigned duties as necessary
