 Spring 2024 Sadat Chair Undergraduate Assistant Position

The Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development is accepting applications for an
undergraduate student assistant for the Spring 2024 semester. This is a paid position at
$15.00/hour.

The requirements:

• Undergraduate at UMD
• Excellent written and oral communications
• Strong attention to detail
• Good at working in a team setting
• Research experience (research done as coursework included)
• Event logistics experience

Preferred:

• Major is in GVPT or BSOS
• Knowledge of SPSS, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or Adobe Acrobat
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Middle East

The Role:
The Sadat Chair Undergraduate Assistant reports directly to the Sadat Chair Program
Coordinator and will occasionally work with the Sadat Professor for Peace and Development.
The undergraduate assistant works on a multitude of tasks that aid the Coordinator in the day-to-
day logistics of managing the program as well as assisting with larger events and long-term
research.

• The day-to-day logistics may include drafting email correspondence, drafting tweets, proofing documents, organizing filing systems.
• Event logistics may include drafting event flyers and announcements, helping set up events and clean up after events,
• Research may include coding open-ended question data to be analyzed and writing memos on topics related to articles and book projects the Coordinator and Professor are working on. Current research topics include but are not limited to: the Middle East to include Israel/Palestine, the Ukraine War, race relations in the U.S., threats to democracy globally and domestically, Evangelical Christians in politics, and the 2024 election.
