Considering a law-related career?  Interested in gaining hands-on legal experience while earning credit?

Apply for the Fall 2018 Internship with the Undergraduate Student Legal Aid Office!

Our internship is on campus.  Interns earn 3 credits which include office hours and a weekly class taught by the attorney.

For more information, stop by our office in Suite 3125 of the South Campus Dining Hall or call 301-314-7756.

Our internship fulfills the internship requirement for the MLAW minor.

Applications are now available.  Visit our website: umddepartments.orgsync.com/org/studentlegalaid

Applications are due Thursday, March 15, 2018.

Our office offers free legal advice to all undergraduate students.
Interns must be undergraduates and have completed 56 credit hours at the beginning of the internship.

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

  • To qualify for the internship, you must have completed 56 credit hours by the time you begin the internship, 12 of which must have been at UMCP.
  • Attach a resume and transcript to your application (official transcript, please).  A minimum 3.0 G.P.A. is recommended.  The application will not be considered complete unless accompanied by the transcript. You can either have the registrar mail us the transcript, or they can issue you a copy which can be dropped off at our office.
  • If accepted, you must attend the scheduled intern training prior to the start of the semester.
  • If you cannot attend the mandatory training, you cannot participate in the internship. Training will be Friday August 24, 2018 from 10am to 2pm.
  • If accepted, you must provide a schedule of hours available for work in the office.  A minimum of 12 hours of availability (between the hours of 10am to 4pm Monday through Friday) must be provided, although a lesser number will be assigned. The number of scheduled office hours is usually about six per week. If you do not provide a schedule conducive to the needs of the office, you cannot participate in the internship.
  • If accepted, you must attend a class on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m., so you should arrange your schedule accordingly.
  • If accepted, you will complete an “Experiential Learning Proposal” and register for this three-credit course as EDCP 386 or under the auspices of a faculty advisor in your own department.  NOTE:  You may receive credit for EDCP 386 only once.

The application can be dropped off at our office, or emailed to Sarah Grabowski at sboyer1@umd.edu.  A transcript must be delivered with every application.
