TerpsVote Campus Voter Engagement Interns

Position Description:

Social Media/Content Creation
  • Develop year-long social media/communication plan and calendar. Identify campus events to provide information to students (First Look Fair, Next Now Fest, Athletic events, Farmer’s Market, etc).
  • Connect with campus-based organizations and groups to maximize social media reach (University Communications, SGA, Class Councils, Resident Life, Stamp, etc). Cross-promote other campus events relevant to voting issues (immigration, environment, education, etc).
  • Craft and distribute messages to campus community regarding registration information, voter education/information, and important events and deadlines.
  • Engage with relevant student organizations (College Democrats, College Republicans, issue-based orgs, etc) to promote student voter engagement.
  • Develop and maintain website
  • Create social media images, email and website banners, and other images to be used for marketing
  • Create video and presentation content related to civic engagement for classes and introductory programming.
Event Planning
  • Develop and execute voter registration events to register students and provide information about voting locations and procedures.
  • Develop and execute voter education events (debates, panels) to help educate students about ballot issues and candidates.
  • Plan activities for Voter Registration Day, Constitution Day, Voter Registration Deadlines
  • Plan election result watch events.
  • Recruit and coordinate student volunteers to staff events.
Education
  • Provide resources to campus community about local ballot issues and candidates.
  • Develop short modules for implementation in UNIV100 and other introductory courses.
  • Become familiar with voting/registration procedures (including absentee ballot requirements) in MD, DC, VA, DE, NY, and NJ to be able to answer student questions.
  • Review and understand campus voting data. Research campus voting trends around the country.
Qualifications & Expectations

The preferred candidates would have passion for civic engagement and voting. Students of all majors are encouraged to apply. Additionally, candidates should be able to demonstrate the following skills and characteristics:
  • Punctuality and accountability
  • Experience promoting programs/events via social media platforms
  • Organization skills and strong self-motivation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
