Fall Internship with Congressman A. Donald McEachin

The office of Congressman A. Donald McEachin (Virginia-04) is currently seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated applicants for a fall internship in the Washington, D.C. office. Qualified candidates will possess exceptional writing and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and an interest in the legislative process. Duties include, but are not limited to, conducting legislative research, attending briefings and hearings, drafting constituent correspondence, answering phones, sorting mail, and providing administrative support to legislative staff on various projects. 

Interns are considered an integral part of the team and will have the opportunity to gain experience working on Capitol Hill, learning firsthand about the workings of a Congressional office. Virginia ties preferred, but not required.

Learning Objectives
Interns will receive an overall perspective of Congress, the legislative process and the importance of constituent services through the completion of tasks assigned. Interns will further hone oral and written communication skills in order to respond to constituent correspondence.

- Technical Skills: Problem analysis, achievement of work objectives, time management, and resource location and utilization
- Communication Skills: Listening ability, concentration ability, writing proficiency, verbal proficiency, and ability to work with others
- Job Performance: Accuracy, dependability, and neatness

Requirements
Qualified candidates will possess exceptional writing and communication skills, strong attention to detail, an interest in the legislative process and commitment to public service and leadership. Commitment to a semester long, 25-40 hour per week internship is also required.
