Job Opportunity with the Town of Bladensburg

Grant Writer Contractor Job Description:
The Grants Writer Contractor position will be responsible for performing high-level professional work related to grant seeking, grant administration, coordination and management of Town of Bladensburg grants. Grant seeking and grant administration activities will include any or all of the following: research and identify grant funding opportunities and grant funding needs; research and develop federal, state, private grant funding sources; develop and catalog grant resources and other grant related resources.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Researches potential grant funding opportunities both public and private at local, state, and federal levels and determines applicability of program resources to meet the Town’s needs.
  • Recommends potential funding opportunities for consideration based on research and confers with the Town Administrator.
  • Prepares and writes grant proposals on both operating and capital projects.
  • Submits draft grant applications for review and approval and ensures all grant applications are submitted in a timely manner along with any required documentation.
  • Develops a grant funding resources database and library.
  • Assists with grant monitoring (monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually) and prepares both program and financial reports to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Monitors grant budgets and reconcile grant expenses in concert with the Town Treasurer.
  • Compiles request for funding.
  • Assists with preparing award agreements with recipient agencies.
  • Establishes and maintains a master grant inventory system to track grant awards.
  • Initiates grant procedures to be followed on each grant award.
  • Provides assistance and guidance in resolving issues and conflicts with grant funding agencies.
  • Provides timely advice and information on grant funding opportunities, requirements and procedures.
  • Reviews all resulting proposals and leads the Town’s in grant compliance.
  • Develops and updates a quarterly report regarding Town wide grants activity and funding status.

Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelors’ Degree in
Political Science, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field;
supplemented with at least two years’ experience in local, state or federal government with direct experience in grant writing and project management. Experience working a private foundation or non-profit organization may be considered. However, preference will be given to candidates with governmental experience.

The position requires the contractor to be able to work from both home and to come into Bladensburg. The contractor will determine with the Town Administrator what days and hours he or she will be onsite. The candidate will not be considered an employee of the Town; therefore will have no claim to benefits or job rights.
