Quantitative Analyst Intern (fall 2013) – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement



Position: Part time or full time intern

Compensation: Unpaid

Start Date: Upon clearance

Location: Washington, D.C.



U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is the second largest federal investigative law enforcement agency, responsible for investigating transnational trade, travel, and finance crimes and enforcing immigration laws. The Analytics and Strategic Planning division (ASP) within the ICE Office of Policy executes quantitative analyses in support of ICE program offices and operations.



Position Description

The Quantitative Analyst Intern will be responsible for supporting ASP assessments and products. The intern will be exposed to a variety of disciplines, including strategy, regression and trends, policy, and data-driven analytics. The intern will also liaise with stakeholders, clients, and partners as required by project needs.



Candidate must be cleared for suitability.



Duties

·         Supporting the ASP team as required

·         Liaising with stakeholders and clients to scope projects and execute assessments

·         Brainstorming with analysts to develop effective solutions

·         Conducting open-source research in support of ASP projects

·         Reviewing data for integrity and reliability

·         Executing quantitative and qualitative data-driven assessments

·         Preparing proposals and final reports for  stakeholders and clients

·         Reviewing documents and materials for content and correctness



Qualifications

·         Interest in immigration policy, immigration enforcement, and criminal investigation

·         Proficiency in application of statistics and other analytical sciences

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

·         Experience demonstrating good creative thinking

·         Experience working in a team/collaborative setting

·         Experience demonstrating both attention to detail and big-picture thinking

·         Excellent writing skills

·         Excellent verbal communication skills

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office Suite

·         Proficiency in other analytical software tools

·         Discretion when handling sensitive information
