Learn about Gates-Cambridge Scholarships to the UK

Created by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000, the Gates-Cambridge Scholarship program provides unique graduate study opportunities for intellectually outstanding students with a proven capacity for leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of others. The Gates-Cambridge Scholarship FULLY FUNDS up to three (3) years of graduate study in any field at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, one of the world’s leading educational institutions. 
You can learn more about the Gates-Cambridge Scholarship and the University of Cambridge by attending an informal event co-hosted by the National Scholarships Office and the Individual Studies Program (IVSP). The event will give you the opportunity to speak with two Maryland faculty members who studied at the University of Cambridge:
  • --Prof. Richard Bell, B.A. (History), University of Cambridge
  • --Prof. Christopher Reynolds, B.A. (Physics and Theoretical Physics) and Ph.D. (Astronomy), University of Cambridge
Event Details: Friday, April 4, from 4 pm to 5:30 pm – 2407 Marie Mount Hall (home of the Individual Studies Program) - Light snacks will be provided

More about the Gates-Cambridge Scholarship Opportunity:
The Gates-Cambridge Scholarship program seeks to build a global network of future leaders in all fields committed to improving the lives of others. It looks for candidates with:
  • commitment to a career focused on improving the lives of others
  • outstanding, demonstrated intellectual ability
  • clear leadership accomplishments and potential
  • a strong fit between the applicant's qualifications and aspirations and a graduate degree program at Cambridge

Eligibility: You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are: 
  • a citizen of any country except the United Kingdom.
  • applying to pursue one of the following full-time degrees – in any field except clinical medicine – at the University of Cambridge: PhD; MSc or MLitt; or a one year postgraduate course (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA etc.)
  • although there is no minimum GPA required, the typical range for scholarship recipients is 3.7 – 4.0
