Do you plan to study in East Asia or Southeast Asia during the 2023-24 academic year? Learn about the Freeman-ASIA Award!

 If you are an undergraduate student, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, have demonstrated financial need,* and have not spent extended time in the country to which you will apply, you are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Freeman-ASIA recipients receive up to $3,000 for a summer of study abroad, $5,000 for a semester, and $7,000 for the academic year. 

The National Scholarships Office provides information and advising to applicants for the Freeman-ASIA program.

The online application is due on Mar 28, 2023.

If you are applying for Gilman, finish that application first and you can easily adapt it to this one. Please note there are some differences and we are happy to give you feedback on your Freeman-ASIA essays.

Eligible countries include: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam

Eligible terms: Summer 2023, Fall 2023, Academic Year 2023-24, Spring 2024, and Calendar Year 2024. NOTE: The proposed length of study in the host country must be a minimum of 8 weeks for a summer term, 10 weeks for a quarter term, and 12 weeks for a semester term.

*Must currently receive need-based financial aid or demonstrate a verifiable need for financial assistance to participate in the proposed study abroad program. The applicant is required to submit the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) figure, calculated through FAFSA, via the online Freeman-ASIA application.
