MyMaryland.net Paid Internship

MyMaryland.net, a 501(c)(3) website devoted to increasing civic participation by making it easy for Maryland residents to contact their elected officials, is announcing our paid internship for the fall 2012 semester. We are seeking a talented, entrepreneurial student to join our team for this fall semester, with the possibility of staying longer. The intern will work on campus alongside our founder for about 5-15 hours a week doing various tasks to help get MyMaryland.net ready for launch, including the following:
·  Drafting press releases, and engaging bloggers and news reporters to pitch stories
·  Drafting grant proposals
·  Social media and communications presence on Facebook, Twitter, blog, and MailChimp platforms
·  Giving site demos to elected officials in Annapolis and Capitol Hill
·  Researching various opportunities at the intersection of government and politics and the internet
·  Any graphic design skills or video editing is a plus
·  Data entry

Ideal candidates have previous internship experience, are passionate about MyMaryland.net's vision, and are very responsive to calls, texts, and email. Candidates must also generally exhibit strong professionalism, people skills, communication, creativity, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.

The internship pays $10/hour, but is most importantly a fantastic opportunity to work on a meaningful project, gain work experience, and expand your network. Interested candidates can send a cover letter, resume, and a brief writing sample (preferably a press release and/or grant proposal) to Ben Simon at ben@mymaryland.net by October 1. The duration of the internship is October - December 2012. Please also include anything else relevant (for example, if you have experience making videos or designing flyers, include some past work).
