The Jump-Start Your Internship Search Certificate Program is a new initiative through the University Career Center & The President’s Promise to encourage students to jump-start their internship search and better prepare for the Career & Internship Fair, on-campus interviews and the overall internship search process.  If a student completes four easy steps, (s)he will earn a certificate and a professional portfolio to use during the Spring Career & Internship Fair! Register (www.Careers.umd.edu/map/internship/home.cfm) and complete all four steps below by Monday, February 25 to pick up a portfolio in time for the Spring Career & Internship Fair.

Facebook Public Policy Externship – Washington, DC (72681)

Facebook is seeking highly organized, motivated, and detail‐oriented undergraduate and graduate students to join our Public Policy team in Washington, DC as summer externs. The Facebook DC office helps to inform users, the media, partners, employees and other stakeholders about Facebook's products and business. Working with policymakers at the international, federal, and state levels, the team handles legislative and regulatory matters, participates in domestic and international policy discussions and leads the company’s interactions with consumer and other non‐governmental organizations. Alongside Facebook team members responsible for public policy and strategic communications, externs will work on a variety of projects and policy issues with relevance in the US and around the world, ranging from legislative monitoring and policy analysis to content development. This is a full-time position.

Research Associate (ID: 72670)
National Association of Counties - Washington, District of Columbia
The incumbent will perform research, data analysis, and policy writing duties on county issues, as well as other assigned topics.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
In cooperation with the Director of Research and other research division staff, the research associate will:
• have primary responsibility for handling large databases of county data;
• identify and analyze key economic, demographic, and development trends for reports;
• identify, research, and develop policy recommendations for reports on several policy areas of interest to NACO, with possibility of specialization in specific policy areas;
• work with contracted authors on assigned NACo reports;
• co-author reports, County News columns, Research News, and other publications;
• prepare data for interactive web posting;
• respond to requests for information and technical assistance from county officials, county staff, academia, NACo staff, and other interested parties;
• create Keynote presentations for research projects;
• supervise research interns on projects as necessary;
• perform other duties as assigned.

Spring Intern, Office of Rep. Rick Larsen
The Office of Rep. Rick Larsen (D WA 02) is seeking to hire an intern in the Washington, DC office for the spring. Candidates should have an interest in and knowledge of the legislative process and American political system, possess excellent communication and writing skills, and be able to work independently.
 
Interns play an important role in the congressional office, and perform tasks that make the legislative process work.  They will be responsible for projects such as researching and writing memos, assisting legislative staff in committee hearings, and fielding constituent phone calls and other requests.  Other duties include leading Capitol tours and providing staff with general office support. During their term, interns are encouraged to attend briefings and committee hearings of personal interest.
 
Those with ties to Washington State or the 2nd Congressional District are strongly encouraged to apply. While the internship is unpaid, we are happy to work with schools that offer students’ academic credit for the internship.
