Government Relations & Public Policy Intern

VMware is seeking highly motivated, talented, and intelligent interns to work on its government relations and public policy team. The interns will report directly to the Vice President of Global Government Relations and Public Policy and be an integral part of a team of federal and state lobbyists. Interns will research and work on the many issues facing technology companies as they relate to federal and state policy. During the internship, you will attend meetings and hearings on Capitol Hill, attend industry meetings, provide research, and support day-to-day initiatives and long-term strategies of VMware. The position is located in Washington, D.C., and Reston, Virginia. Interns must commit to a minimum of 12 weeks, full time.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the company’s government relations and public policy organization in the United States
  • Create newsletters, infographics, and other materials for internal and external audiences
  • Research and provide analysis on policy issues surrounding technology, privacy, cloud
  • infrastructure, and other issues
  • Monitor and track industry news and related legislative developments using a myriad information sources
  • Assist with government relations and public policy projects as assigned

Qualifications & Experience
  • A practical and proactive problem-solver who possesses strong business acumen and is confident, mature and calm under fire
  • Must be able to juggle multiple priorities and tasks in a fast paced environment, but be focused when needed on the matter at hand
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and leadership skills
  • Strong and demonstrated research skills
  • Must be able to work effectively both independently and with a team
  • Of the highest degree of personal and professional integrity and ethic
  • Experience with graphic design and/or HTML is desirable
  • Prior experience with an elected official or state/local government is a plus

Education
  • Current or recently graduated (within 6 months of graduation) undergraduate with a focus in political science or technology-related field. Significant public policy, government, political science, or international affairs coursework is necessary
  • Juris Doctorate candidates are encouraged to apply
