MLAW 358

This courses examines the laws that protect the environment. These includes laws limiting air and water pollution, requiring safe management of hazardous waste, protecting humans from exposure to toxic substances and preserving biodiversity. The course also will examine legal responses to climate change and the development of global environmental law. The legal and policy implications of the Trump administration's efforts to relax environmental regulation and to withdraw from the Paris climate accord also will be examined.

The course is taught by Professor Robert Percival, director of Maryland Carey Law's Environmental Law Program. He is the lead author of the nation's most widely used environmental law casebook.  Students will receive free course materials - a beta edition of the forthcoming 8th edition of the casebook. The course materials will be tailored to be easily comprehensible to students with no previous background in law.
